Bongo the Border Collie Puppy ~ Adopted

Bongo the Border Collie Puppy ~ Adopted
Handsome boy!

Bongo is one of a litter of four puppies we rescued from a shelter in northern Florida.  It would have been very hard to get them were it not for Amy Benz who happened to be on vacation in the area and offered to drive them this way.  The puppies were so appreciative of the rescue and ride that they didn’t piddle in their crate for the entire 8 hours!  What little champs they are!

Bongo is all black except for his white chest and merled feet.  He looks a lot like his brother Bingo whose toes are merle so I made sure to give them different collars.  Bongo’s collar is red with blue running through it.  Like his littermates, he just loves to run and wrestle.  This evening my husband was holding him in his arms and Bongo relaxed so much he fell asleep.  For a moment it looked like Glenn was holding a stuffed teddy bear!  Just adorable!!! Silly me, I didn’t take a photo to add to his photo album!

I love his ears

I am fostering Bongo in Winter Park. If you think you might be interested in giving him a forever home, please first read our article on Starting Your Dog Off Right, then review our Adoption Process and e-mail the requested information at Holly.TheDogLiberator@gmail.com

August 8th Update:

All the puppies were outside playing this morning and I, of course, had my camera in my hand.  Here they are enjoy the morning together.  Adorable!

August 12th Update:

Bongo is doing great.  He has a very happy heart, plays so wonderfully with the other puppies.  He really likes the ball and will grab it and run, hoping that everyone else will chase him.  What a puppy!!!!

I gave the puppies a big block of ice to play with in the heat.  Before I got my camera out, Bongo was cradling it like a pillow. Too funny.  Here they all are playing with it later:

Going home with Dean and Melanie

August 13th Update:

Bongo was just adopted, but it was the craziest adoption ever! Melanie and Dean came to meet the puppies and had quite the quandary in choosing. At first they settled on Bongo because he was the one who was the most focused in on them, but then they reconsidered all the others as well. Finally they settled on Banjo. We talked a long time, did all the paperwork, took photos, and watched the puppy jump enthusiastically into the car. I waved goodbye, came back in, told my remaining puppies that their day was coming, took a double take, and realized that Banjo was looking right back at me. I had given Melanie and Dean the wrong dog! They had Bongo!!! I called them right away and Dean laughed. He said that the puppy was in his lap, they were raving about how perfect he was, when suddenly he said, “Wait, didn’t he have more white on his face?” “No, I don’t think so. Well, maybe…” and then I called. They decided it was fate, and that Bongo is indeed their dog. Not exactly the way I see my adoptions going, but it all worked out in the end. So, Clermont, welcome your newest Dog Liberator Pup!

  1. I must say, it was so difficult to choose the “right” dog, and although we thought we had settled on Banjo, I am convinced that Bongo was meant to be with our family! I was so excited about the adoption, it hadn’t occurred to us that we had taken the wrong pup. Their personalities were so similar, there was no denying that they were siblings. Anyhow, the adoption process was super simple and fun! Bongo is adjusting well, and he seems to like the kitties, too. Thank you for all of your great advise and help, and we look forward to sending you updates on his progress!
