Calliope the ACD, from Snow to Sun in one week – Adopted!

So, you’ve been thinking you want to get another dog. But not just any dog.

You want a dog that has an eye-catching appearance. And really smart. You want her to do great with people, dogs and cats. She’ll have to love to play, because your current dog really wants a buddy. You’re an on-the-go kinda person, so she has to like to do stuff, not just hang out on the couch.

A puppy would be cool, but let’s face it, you really don’t want to clean up piddle and watch your furniture be chewed up, so you want one that is past that phase. And, size-wise, you’re like Goldilocks: you don’t want that is too big, or one that is too small, but rather, one that is juuuuuust right. Of course, you want to get her from a rescue rather than a breeder or pet store, but it would be especially cool if she “had a story.” Well, we don’t take special orders, but today, my friend, is your lucky day!

Calliope is beautiful, don’t you think? An Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) she has wonderful markings that accentuate her eyes and smile. And she does smile. One-, maybe two-years-old, she is very friendly, not only with people and dogs, but cats as well. Perfect for an active family, she really likes to play with dogs. She was about 33 pounds when rescued, but like a lot of us, she’s carrying more than she should, and will slim down to more like 25 pounds.

And, of course, Calliope has a story. She came from a high kill shelter in Ohio where she was kept in an outdoor kennel run for weeks in the snow before being pulled at the eleventh hour by a good Samaritan. Within the week, she was driven from Ohio to Florida to be fostered, and evaluated so we could find her forever home. Starving for love and attention, she has shown herself to be sweet and attentive!

According to Courtney, ” I temporary fostered her for a couple of days, and she was awesome! I had to crate her in a room where our 2 cats like to hang out, and she did perfectly, not interested in them at all. She was also SUPER with other dogs, and totally loves people. I took her to a disc dog competition to hand her off to Andrea, and she was eating up all the attention. She laid with me on the sidelines and wasn’t reactive at all to the disc dogs running and barking all around her. She’s gonna make someone a truly fantastic dog!!”

Calliope is spayed, up to date on her shots and housetrained. She is being fostered by Andrea and Jason in Jupiter, Florida

Her photo album can be viewed on Facebook.
