Cassidy the Bouncing Puppy ~ Adopted

“I can’t believe you’re not taking Cassidy.”

That was the first I heard of this girl. We had agreed to pull a litter of Chihuahuas and an orphaned Border Collie puppy from Hale County Humane Society in Alabama. Then a couple of days before the transport, director Dee sent an e-mail: “I can’t believe you’re not taking Cassidy.”

Gisele called me. “Do you know who Cassidy is?” Never heard of her.
E-mail back to Dee. “Who’s Cassidy????”

He thought for sure he’d told us about her. Nice to know that we’re not the only ones having imaginary conversations!!! One e-mail (Dee: “She’s funny as hell”) and three photos later, I said, “Absolutely! Send her to me!!!”

Let me put it this way: I showed my daughter the photos of Cassidy. Caitlin said, “Oh my! Look at her eyes. You can tell she’s thinking. She is too smart. She’s like Kipper!” Yup, that’s what I thought. And I adored Kipper, so how could I say no?

I’m glad I didn’t. I adore Cassidy. (There’s a lot of adoration going on in my home!) And I knew Dee did when he called me the morning after I got the puppies to ask how they were doing. As I started to answer, he said, “Yeah, but what do you think of Cassidy?” lol He told me that she was a favorite of everyone at the shelter. One of the men who works there would let her out of her cage every morning and she would follow him around the whole day, sticking to him like Velcro. That would explain Cassidy’s reaction to my husband. As soon as she got here, she was all eyes for him. After they were all bathed, he picked her up and held her, rubbing her ears and talking with her. Slowly she relaxed in his arms and her eyes closed as she started to fall asleep. Glenn looked over at me and said, “This is one sweet puppy.” And she is!

Cassidy is Rat Terrier, born around October. There may be a touch of something else in there, but that is what I see shining through. She bounces. She bounces and pounces up and down on her front legs. It is hysterical. She loves-loves-loves people! She dances around for attention and clambers to climb into your lap. And when she sits, she sits staring at you as if to ask, “What do you want me to do?”

Cassidy is wonderful!!! I have lots of photos of her posted in her photo album. She is being fostered in Winter Park, Fl.

If you are considering adopting her please read about our adoption process then e-mail me at holly.thedogliberator@gmail.com.

January 27th Update:

Cassidy was spayed today. She wasn’t too happy with me. But she perked up when she got home and went outside with the rest of the puppies. In fact, I think she forgot she’d had surgery! I finally had to call her in to rest. I put the rest of the puppies in their crate but got her to lay down on the puppy bed. She decided that she liked it. In fact, two hours later she’s still laying there! Too sweet!!!

January 29th Update:

“On 01/08/11 we made the decision to have our dog of 17 years, Fidget, put to sleep. It was one of the hardest things my wife and I have had to do. The poor girl just couldn’t get around any more. That little dog meant the world to us. We both thought it would be a long time before we were ready to get another dog but the emptiness has been too much for either of us to stand.”

So began the e-mail I received from Tom and Danielle. Something about Cassidy caught their hearts, and I invited them to come over and meet her. She acted like she’d been waiting for them. Fosters often tell me that they’re worried them might adopt a dog to the wrong person. I tell them, “Don’t worry. Your dog will know its family when they arrive.” And they do. And Cassidy did. No doubt they will have years of fun together!
