Tasha ~ Adopted!

11825138_10153388710704792_3428027144085042086_nTasha just came in on transport! She is a knock-out. Absolutely georgous, intellegent girl.

From Gisele: “Tasha is the type of dog that would save her family in a fire! She is nurturing and lovey…she flips your hand with her nose to be petted. Calm, but still has play joy. She’s friendly, and tends to gravitate to little dogs…thinking they are her pups. It’s time for her to be the baby for a while!”

Tasha is between 2-4 years old, and sadly, her life hasn’t been a picnic up until this point. The folks who owned her kept her tied up outside, and used her for breeding. Because of this neglect, Tasha is heartworm positive. Thankfully, through the generosity of our amazing supporters, we’re able to have her treated. Her worst days are behind her, because she’s a TDL dog now! ♥

Muggs weighs about 32 lbs right now but he will continue to grow a bit more and will put on some weight as he is a bit underweight right now.

His shelter assessment shares that he is good with kids and other dogs, is in the middle range for energy and LOVES to play. He is sociable and energetic.

PTSD Trained German Shepherd ~ Adopted!

Six years old and absolutely amazing. Great family dog. We are searching for the perfect Central Florida home for him. Please Visit our How to Adopt from Us page
and Email thedogliberator@gmail.com

Trained, PTSD Dog, Service Dog, Therapy Dog, Veteran, German ShepherdThe word Keep has been used all week at my house, even by me.  This gorgeous boy is truly amazing.  You can see more photos of him on Facebook.

History:  This is a six year-old German Shepherd who was trained as a PTSD Detection and Seizure Alert Dog.  He was owned by a very young woman for several years, where he provided companionship and safety.  She recently passed away, and her family has entrusted our rescue with his care, which was an incredibly difficult decision for them to make.

1/12/15 Update: To put to rest the “vanishing” and “re-appearance” regarding our adoption of Diesel back in late November 2014, TDL wants to be clear on our re-posting of Diesel for adoption. We received multiple inquiries and thank you.  We have spent the past several weeks evaluating Diesel and addressing outside issues as to TDL’s adoption of Diesel.  We are happy to report that Diesel has enjoyed a festive holiday and much loving and is now ready for that “forever home”.

We apologize for any confusion or delays in responding to your requests, but it was necessary to take prudent and precise steps in our handling of Diesel’s adoption, and re-homing.  We are secure that we have accomplished that mission and are moving forward with TDL’s commitment to excellence and transparency in all of our endeavors.

1/25/15 Update: We are excited to announce that Diesel has found his place! Congratulations to the Watson family!  We are so happy for you Diesel!

Tuesday ~ Adopted!

aa

Tuesday comes to us after she found herself in a shelter due to the sudden passing of her owner.

She is an 11 month old Female German Shepherd who is currently about 52 lbs.  We imagine she will put on weight quickly as she currently appears skinny.

German Shepherd

a2

She appears to get along with other dogs and we are told she doesn’t seem to mind cats (we will learn more as we get to know her more in the coming days).

Her transporter, Sheila, reports that she is very affectionate and loves to give hugs and kisses. We can’t wait to tell you more about her as we learn more in the coming days. Check out her Photos on Facebook!

If you are interested in Tuesday, please read Our Adoption Process and email us at Adopt.TheDogLiberator@Gmail.com

10891749_10152862654979792_1834511411704635856_n 1/5/15  Update: Tuesday has left the building!  She finds her home with Belinda and Mike of Longwood, who have adopted from us in the past! Remember Fonzi, now called Bleu? He just became a big brother!

Of course, any time we do an adoption into a house who has a dog, we wonder if it will be a good match, and if the current dog (in this case, Bleu) will take to having a new dog in the pack. Well I think this picture says it all. Congratulations to the happy Pack!

Titus, Achtung Baby! ~ Adopted!

what a gem!

what a gem!

Wow!  Titus is a five month old German Shepherd Dog.  He is currently at the vet being evaluated, and is very underweight.  Chicken stew and de-worming will take care of that quick!  Everyone loves him!  We will be uploading new photos of him on Facebook shortly.

In the right environment, a good trainer could take a dog like this and within just a few short weeks transform it into a certified service dog. Combine the training with an incredible bond that dogs like these create with their owners, and you’ve got yourself a winner!

Achtung Baby!

Achtung Baby!

If you know of someone who has been on a waiting list for a PTSD Service Dog, consider adopting a dog like Titus, and hiring a trainer to get the dog quickly certified.  Those of us who live in the Central Florida area are very lucky to be surrounded by great trainers!

11/27/14 Update: Titus was adopted today by Susan of  Maitland, Fl. Happy Thanksgiving to Titus and his new family!

Sven~Adopted

Sven, one of our Frozen Puppies

Sven, a male, is Aussie maybe Shepherd. He is a very calm and quiet puppy (so far) He loves to snuggle. He is about 8 weeks of age. He is one of four puppies, 2 males and 2 females. Sven is a real charmer and because of his dark coloring, he’s hard to photograph.  You can see more photos of him on Facebook.

Update:  If you are going to Disney and take your kids to the Frozen Sing-a-long… you’ll probably meet John – because he works there! John adopted Sven and Elsa and does not have plans to change their names!

What a gorgeous girl.  She looks like a German Shepherd, but her coloring makes me wonder if there’s a touch of collie in her blood!  This girl is just a baby, still has her baby teeth!  She is shy at first, and loves to hide behind her human.  She needs a confidence boost and a gentle owner to show her the world is a wonderful place!

Found as a stray, and taken in by a good Samaritan, this gorgeous 4 month-old female German Shepherd will be making her way from Alabama to Central Florida this week.  Details coming soon!

Because she is not vetted, we are asking for a Virtual Foster for her, someone that can donate toward her care.

imagejpeg_0We’ve learned more about this young shep, she was found by a 16 year-old girl who took her  in.  Unfortunately, her Mom said No!  I can remember the dozens of times my Mom said No too!

Heidi and her young rescuer

Heidi and her young rescuer

The young girl named the dog Zydania.  Beautiful name eh?  She is good with cats, good on leash, good with  kids, and has no food aggression.    You can see more photos of her on Facebook.

02/05/14 Update:  Much to our surprise, Sarah White went to pick up our little Heidi, off of transport, and she was not there!  Heidi accidentally was left on a transport headed for Tampa, and didn’t get off at the Wildwood exit!  OOOPS!  I sitting in my living room with Sheila Coffman when Sarah called me with the news – No Heidi.   Needless to say, I had a cow!  No worries though, she has headed back up and is with Sarah White as I write this, and she should be at my house any minute.  Whew!

02/07/14 Update:  Heidi was groomed yesterday by Brittany of Newman Veterinary in Deltona.  Over 100 mats were removed.  Yuck!  Everyone fell in love with Heidi, and I’ve received several requests to find more like her! Heidi is at the vet getting all of her shots, microchip and spay, and she has a meet tomorrow to be adopted!

02/08/14 Update:  Heidi was adopted by Vicki B and her son Zach of Merritt Island, FL.  Her new name will be Sasha!  She is settling into her new  home and doing well!  She’s going to be a very happy girl!

unnamedCAVRGL5S12/02/14 Update: Sasha recently graduated Pet Therapy Class and is now serving as Vicki’s official service dog for her limited vision. Sasha’s job is to alert Vicki when a person approaches from a direction which Vicki is unable to see. Sasha is also trained to wake Vicki up at 7AM for eye drops. She even knows how to handle tough mornings and will grab the covers and run off if Vicki doesn’t get up in time.

Sasha is now enrolled in Rally and is doing very well. She appears to be a natural in agility courses. Congratulations to Sasha and Vicki on their amazing accomplishments and journey together!

Reenie-Adopted

Where’s the ball?

A Message from Reenie:

“Howdy folks. I know I don’t make much noise, and I’m not a needy girl, but enough is enough. I’ve been in rescue for several months now, and I’ve been a really good girl. The people who have fostered me have taught me so much, but I think it’s time I move on. The holidays are just days away, and I kind of feel left behind. I don’t want to raise a ruckus but what does it take for a girl to be noticed? I may not have long silky hair, or blue eyes, but I am gorgeous in my own way. I don’t know anything about Black Dog Syndrome, but I hear people talking about it. Anyway, thanks for listening, and please, if you can help me find a home for the holidays, I’ll be much obliged. ~Reenie

When she looks you in the eye, it feels like she’s looking deep into your soul.  She has an incredible presence that just can’t be captured in pictures or videos.

Reenie would be happiest in a home with a fenced in yard where she can run and chase toys.   She needs regular exercise and room to run, but she also needs a human companion to play with her (tennis balls are her favorite) and provide minimal supervision during outside time.

She’ll also make a great jogging partner.   Reenie would love to be adopted by a family with other dogs, cats, or kids.  She has lived with other dogs, cats, and an infant.  When play time is over, she can usually be found lying quietly at someone’s feet, rolling over now and then for a tummy rub.

Visions of sugarplums dancing….

Reenie handles new situations and people with ease, is crate/potty trained, and knows basic commands (sit, stay, down), and she appears to be quite a quick study.  She would be a great pet for someone who is looking for an active companion that’s already house and crate trained.  Her photo album can be viewed on Facebook.

Reenie is about 2 years of age, she is heartworm negative now!

12/14/12 Foster Update:

Hi Gisele –

I wanted to give you an update on Reenie and get you a couple new photos.  Looking through her vet records today, I realized she is very close to reaching one year in foster care.  What an awful milestone to reach.  I feel like I’ve failed her.  We’ve tried everything we can think of to promote her; our friends and neighbors have tried to help too.  Because she’s fine with kids, dogs, and cats, housetrained, etc, I was sure she’d be adopted if she could just meet a few new people.  Everyone who meets her loves her – vet techs, neighbors, friends, the trainer, the pet sitter.  I know she doesn’t look a lot like a Border Collie at first glance, but I can see it in the way she moves.  She’s so graceful, and ridiculously smart.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll get a real home for Christmas where she gets the love and attention she deserves.  ~Nicole

Puddin’ Pie~Adopted

Puddin’ Pie was originally rescued from Miami Dade.  Her family can no longer keep her in their apartment.  She is being fostered by Anita in the Boca Raton area.  Anita says she is a very sweet girl.  She is 32 pounds and about 6 months old.  Obviously, she is good with kids and other dogs.

Her photo album can be viewed on Facebook.

Pudding Pie has gone through quite a transformation in a very short period of time.  At first, she was terrified of everything.  After giving her a few days to decompress, she showed us that she was much more comfortable with other dogs.  I can describe her emotions like being “the new kid in school”.  But now, she is very social, and extremely happy.  Much to my surprise, she adores the Toyota puppies, and wants to be near Camry specifically.  I’ve put their crates side by side, and they play with each other all day long.

Pudding pie loves to run, she will need a fenced in yard, and preferably another dog to hang out with.  She is a joy to foster.

If you are interested in meeting her, please email TheDogLiberator@gmail.com

Mowgli, a Best Friend~RIP

Mowgli loves to hug

Mowgli is a one year old Border Collie boy who is described by Paul Pipitone as calm yet playful.  I fostered Mowgli for a few days, and realized that he was very unsure of himself and needed a boost in self-esteem.  I asked trainer and behaviorist, Paul Pipitone if he would foster Mowgli, and when he said yes, I was thrilled!

When I first met Mowgli, he reminded of me of Titan who was adopted by Jesse two years ago.  Today, Titan is one heck of a frisbee dog!  Titan was a registered purebred Border Collie.  Is Mowgli?  I have no clue.  Maybe he is, maybe he’s a BC/Shepherd mix, but one look at Titan and you’ll wonder!!!

Titan, the AKC ABCA Purebred of 2009

Mowgli came from Brevard County Animal Services.  Here’s what Paul has written about him:

“Mowgli, or as we call him   Mo-Mo is a really cool dog. He is housebroken, neutered, good with other dogs and people too. Don’t have any cats to test him with.  He is, for a puppy, very mellow. Not high strung, overexcited like some. Good spirited, for the most part a happy boy.

He does get a bit whiny when first put in his crate, but calms down in 5 minutes or so.  We are working on getting him to go into his crate on his own but right now he still needs a bit of coaxing.  He would make an excellent family dog.  Lays down and goes to sleep right by our chairs at night when we sit down to watch TV. Will take a week or two to earn his trust as we have. He will come give kisses whenever you want.  All in all a really great young boy.”

Mowgli, attentive and focused

Mowgli is good with other dogs and enjoys children and has a wonderful and intelligent focus.  He is being fostered in the Orlando area.  You can view all of his photos in his photo album on Facebook.

More updates coming soon!

Update:  I received this message from Mowgli’s former owner!
Gisele:  I just wanted to let whomever it could help, I was mowgli’s owner. He is 8 months old and is great with cats and children. He likes to heard kids so my 3 year old had moments of frustration sometimes but overall they got along great. I live in an apartment and that was obviously not fair for him. He’s a great dog and I miss him terribly. Thank you so much for giving him a chance. My 3 kids and I were very depressed to give him up but knew he wasn’t happy and needed a big yard, its only fair. It was very relieving to see him happy in those pictures. He is a dumpster diver so make sure trash is away 🙂 he’s awesome and will make someone very happy. Thank you for the response. If you wouldn’t mind letting us know when he’s adopted that would be amazing. He can shake, paw, other paw, lay down, and sit but I’m sure you figured this out by now, Mowgli is a very smart boy.

Thank you so much,
Stephanie

Mowgli and Jared, the Perfect Match!

Adoption Update:   Big Day for Mo-Mo. Hi, this is Paul with Dog’s Best Friend of Cerntral Florida. I’ve been fostering Mo for a couple of weeks now. Today he met Jared and his huge chocolate lab Leroy for the first time. I was completely taken by surprise the moment Jared walked through the gate of my new training center an Mo walked straight over to him and began licking his hand. Followed that up in just seconds with a jump up hug and tail wagging wildly. I didn’t expect that from Mo with a total stranger. Needless to say, Jared fell in love with him instantly. Next we brought Leroy in. In less than a minute, they checked each other out with the usual hinny sniff and began playing right away. Right then I knew this was going to be a good match. We sat and talked for an hour and I gave Jared several pointers on how to keep Mo’s behavior modification training going. Jared already had many leadership qualities about him so I knew he would be a good home for Mo. I was able to give him a few things he hadn’t thought of to implement with both Mo and Leroy. Mo is on his way back to Tampa to begin his new life. He’s a very happy boy.

Like many trainers and behaviorists, Paul is known for helping his clients and the rescue community.  He is currently fostering one dog and has asked TDL to help spread the word.

Thumper

Thumper is just an awesome little Pit mix. We saved him at 2 months old as he suffered from Parvo and nearly died. He is now 8 months old and full of life. Very playful and friendly to everyone and everything. Loves to ride in the car, walks well on leash.

He’s about 35 pounds, has all his shots, is housebroken and neutered, crate trained and simply a blast to be around. High energy. Will need plenty of exercise. Loves people and to play with other dogs. A great family dog.

10/12/12 Update:  Gisele, I adopted duke (mowgli at the time) from your rescue about 10 months ago. He has a degenerative disease which has caused him to rupture his cranial cruciate ligament. After I had surgery on the first one, within 3 weeks the lateral ligament ruptured.   Just thought I’d let you know.  ~Jared

Jared and I discussed Mowgli’s situation in great detail.  I also discussed it with our Vet.  The disease itself has no warning, shows no signs, and is not breed-specific.  You don’t know your dog has it, until it happens.  Mowgli was in a lot of pain, and recovery was slow.  He faced a life of difficulties, and could never be an active dog.  I fostered Mowgli, as did Paul Pipitone.  Mowgli was a very large and strong dog with a ton of energy.  He was all puppy.  Jared and I agreed that it was unfair to ask Mowgli to endure a life of pain.

It matters now how, why or when we have to say goodbye to our dogs… the sorrow is the same.  In Duke’s (Mowgli’s) case, Jared made a decision for Duke’s best interest, not his own.  Duke will be missed.

Echo the White Shepherd ~ Adopted

Last week Gisele received an urgent e-mail from Becky asking for her help.  It seemed that a Florida rescue had agreed to take a 10-month-old German Shepherd, the transport was leaving the next day, the the rescue had just pulled out.  Could we help?  Could we take the dog?  Becky has done so much for us in the past, we were loathe to say no.  And Lindsey had recently told Gisele she’d love to foster German Shepherds.   And then we saw photos of this handsome boy we knew we had to take him.  We simply had to say yes, don’t you think!

So Echo is with Lindsey in Deltona, getting used to family life again.  He is heartworm positive, which we will probably treat with the slow kill method if our vet concurs.  That is no big deal; in fact, it is how I treated my own dog, Gus.

If you are interested in possibly adopting Echo, please review our adoption process and then e-mail me at holly.thedogliberator@gmail.com

05/12/11 Foster Update:  Echo is very good boy, starves affection, is intelligent and very trainable.  He is very good with the other dogs, and Lindsey, his foster likes him very much.   He is not alpha at all.  Lindsey says he has not been properly socialized, and Lindsey is working with him (easy fix).  She says it only takes 2 days for him to adjust to a new home.  She does not feel that he has been abused, and he has not tried to jump her fence once. She also brags on how good he is on leash!

May 29th:

Today was Echo’s day!  He has found his forever home and we are so happy.  Lindsey is on cloud nine.  People wonder how we can foster, how we can “give up” a dog for whom we have cared.  It is because our fosters get to meet the fantastic people who are our adopters, and it makes all the difference! Echo was adopted by Debbie Huff, and he’s living in Melbourne now! I bet he’ll love our Florida Beaches!!!!

Grasshopper, the Amazing Kelpie~Adopted

When you are in rescue, you get used to dogs finding you!  That is exactly how Grasshopper came to us.  Karen and her family have been working with us for a while, trying to find a dog that they aren’t allergic to.  Imagine our surprise when we received this e-mail from her:
Hi Gisele!

A dog found us! We found her on our driveway! Her microchip indicates she’s from Miami, I contacted the owner who didn’t want her anymore. He had given her away to a family, that we can not locate.

Grasshopper is 31 pounds, and I think you are right on about her being an Australian Kelpie. The paperwork says she’s a German Shepherd mix, born Feb 18th 2009. (note: Kelpie’s are commonly mistaken for shepherds)

She is smart but needs more training to reach her full potential. She is fully housebroken. Walks well on a leash. Likes to stand on her hind legs to get your attention, plays tug-of –war with a rope, likes to take very long walks/runs, and likes to play chase. She thinks she is a lap dog and wants to sit in your lap or will sit by your feet. She likes to be around people at all times. No aggressive behaviors but will bark to sound protective. She is great with kids and won’t bite down when wrestling and playing.  She doesn’t like to stay outside alone and will bark when she is ready to come in (that is usually when we come in).  She really wants to be around people.  She is watchful and walks on her hind legs to get attention.

One big problem is if you leave the door open she will run away! My husband chased her for ½ hour today after my son left the back door open. Her coat is shiny and seems water proof. She is not a smelly dog. She needs a home where she can run around daily and get plenty of exercise. A fence is needed.

She deserves a great home!

Karen”

Since writing this description, Grasshopper has gotten extensive training and has blended into family life seamlessly.  She really is something, even pulls the kids when they are wearing their inline skates!!! Make sure you look through her very extensive photo album.

Grasshopper is being fostered in the Orlando area. If you are interested in adopting her, please review our adoption process, then e-mail holly.thedogliberator@gmail.com

March 26 Update:

Oh, what a day we have had! Today was our Spring Reunion, held in Melbourne. How excited we were when Grasshopper came. And, boy, did he exceed our expectations!!!

First, let me tell you, Grasshopper is what I call a keyhole dog. She is so slender that she could slip through keyhole. And she is beautiful. Her markings are stunning and her ears are picking signals from space. She loves her people. Even when off playing, she seemed to be always aware of them. It is a shame that they are allergic to her, otherwise no way she’d leave this foster home!

And Grasshopper is smart. Really smart. Paul Pipitone spent a little time with her and near ‘nuf skipped over to tell me how amazing she is, that she learns quickly and willingly. His enthusiasm was quite contagious! Yup, this girl will make a wonderful addition to a family somewhere!

This video was made at the reunion. What a day, what a day!!!

May 1sts update:

Okay, we finally got it!  Karen has been telling us how great Grasshopper is with the kids and how she will pull them on their skates.  You can see it for yourself in this video.  This totally cracks me up!!!

Grasshopper & Sam

Grasshopper was adopted yesterday by Sam and Amy Peddy!  They have renamed her Kelsie!
