Alfredo – Adopted!

12670788_10153806354544792_2688762295079708460_n

Alfredo is a 5 month old Pyr mix who came to us from AL. From the looks of him, we think he may have some Collie or Aussie in the mix as well. Alfredo is extremely friendly and affectionate. He’s very people people-oriented, but likes other dogs as well. He will b e a large dog when he’s done growing!

.

“Alfredo reminds me so much of our dog, Alfie, who’s also a Pyr mix. Alfie’s a big guy, but he’s so gentle and laid back, you forget that he’s a moose. I have a feeling Alfredo will be a mellow dog as well. A couch potato/teddy bear!” ~Johannah

3/8/16 Update: Alfredo was adopted by Jackie Traynor of Orlando. She adopted Madonna (now Lucy) back in 2014, and was looking for an energetic friend to keep her busy. It was love at first sight for the two of them! Looking forward to updates and photos!

Lizzy Hale ~ The Gorgeous GSD ~ Adopted

7/17/16 Update: Izzy is a very smart and focused girl. She would make an excellent PTSD dog, as she is loyal and loving to a fault. Izzy was returned to us, because she does not like being left alone for more than a few hours at a time. Therefore, we will need to place her in a home with a stay-at-home parent and/or another dog/dogs. Ideally, we’d love to place her with a military vet or another person in need of a support dog.

History of Lizzy:

Special thanks to pilot Mike Young!

Say hello to Lizzy! She came to us from Alabama via Pilots and Paws yesterday. 4 year old Lizzy is a big girl, 75 pounds! She’s good with cats, other dogs, and kids, and would make an excellent service dog.

We anticipate a lot of interest in this beautiful dog, so if you’d like to meet Lizzy, please go here first to learn about our adoption process.

8/7/15 Update:  Lizzy was adopted by  today. She will be sharing her new home with a doggie brother and a human sister. Yay, Lizzy!!!

1/20/15 Update: Lizzy is returning to us after discovering that being an only dog, in charge of the house makes her a bit anxious. We believe she may flourish in a pack setting where she has buddies to make her feel safe and secure. Check out her Photos on Facebook! If you are interested in learning more about Lizzy or being considered for adoption please read Our Adoption Process, answer the questions in the post and email us at  Adopt.TheDogLiberator@gmail.com.

The poor boy is starving. Gisele is cooking him up a huge pot of her special chicken stew. Love and food are what this lovely boy needs, and he’s gonna get plenty of both! He is about 2 years old.

Matthew ~ Adopted

Matthew (2)
Matthew is not a sibling. Sadly, he hasn’t had enough food during his short life! He loves to play and is learning how to fit in. He and Gabriel share nicely.

We estimate that he is between 12-16 weeks old. He is scheduled to be spayed/neutered on Monday, and will be available for meets after that.

If you would like to be considered for Matthew, please go here to learn all about our adoption process. Check out Matthew’s Facebook Album and the litter’s ’ photos on Facebook!

Matthew (3)Although we don’t use a traditional adoption application, we would like you to answer a few questions so that we can get to know you better. As we expect a lot of interest in these puppies, priority will be given to those who answer our adoption questions. The puppies are located in Deltona, FL.

If you love the pups, but can’t adopt, please consider being a virtual foster!

Lady Johannah, the lovely Collie mix! ~ Adopted!

11043537_10153368792419792_474721156388449805_nSay hello to Lady Johannah! She’s named after one of our TDL rescuers, I think because they have similar hair colors. Ha ha.

Johannah is a young girl, we think around 5 months old. She’s very sweet and friendly, and has quickly become a foster mom to our new pups. We think she’d be a great therapy or CGC dog!

Dr. House – The stunning Border Collie Boy! ~ Adopted!

11665558_10153279559614792_3164254090779494003_n

After my grooming I am going to look dreamy!

Say hello to House! He’s an absolutely beautiful 2 year old dog with a unique front leg. Although it is a bit crooked, he gets around just fine and is not in any pain. He just arrived at Newman Vet, so once the doctors have a chance to examine him, we’ll know more about what’s going on with it. You can see his unique leg in the image bellow on his right, our left.

10304712_10153279556649792_1162728177300885354_n

11216252_10153279557399792_5925597077228159370_n

I can’t wait to be someone’s love muffin!

House will also be getting a bath and a brush out while at Newman. As you can see, he’s “blowing” his winter coat, so he looks a bit disheveled. There’s a lovely summer coat under all that wooliness!

This boy has a VERY sweet and calm disposition. Even after spending long hours on transport, he was cheerful, friendly, and curious, but not at all hyper. He did great on a leash and showed no signs of fearfulness or aggression. He just wanted hugs, pets, and kisses on his snout! I really can’t say enough good things about this charming young man.

Check out this video of him that was filmed at the shelter showing off his skills (you can also see that he gets around just fine with his unique leg):

His paperwork has him listed as an “Aussie mix”, but all we see is Border Collie!

If you would like to be considered for House, please go here for everything you’ll need to know about adopting from us. You can also see more Photos of him on Facebook!

He is located in Deltona, FL.

11667475_10153309112374792_6170458600760405109_n7/8/15 Update: The more time we spend with House, the more we love him. He’s VERY loving and sweet, a goofy bear of a boy! He would do great in a home with kids.

House is also back from the vet who checked out his leg. The verdict? House’s crooked leg is the result of an old break that didn’t heal straight. Because he gets around just fine and isn’t in any pain, they don’t want to put him through the ordeal of major surgery and the possible complications that could arise from it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Want to see how gentle and loving House is? Here he is!

Jolene ~ Adopted!

994113_10153205230034792_4019262685380639102_n[1] Jolene was a last minute addition on transport yesterday, and we’re so very excited to have her! She’s a lovely little girl, around 1 1/2 years old and weighing in at only 15 pounds.

We’re not sure what breeds Jolene is. Our best guess is that she is a Beagle/Spaniel/Collie mix. Whatever she is, she’s absolutely adorable, and that’s a fact.

Jolene is very friendly with both men and women, and she’s had a dog buddy in the past. She’s very bright, but not hyper at all. A perfect little friend!

Luna Lovegood

Athens buffyLittle Luna Lovegood  is an 10-12 week old female collie mix puppy who comes to us from Alabama. We’re not sure how she wasn’t adopted in a heartbeat, but we are happy to have this little stinker!

Luna is all puppy! She is playful, energetic, ready to go and play play play! She is also affectionate and loves to give kisses.

She is available for adoption in Deltona, FL.

We hope to have more pictures of this little girl soon! Check out her photos on Facebook!

10/27/14 Update:  Luna was adopted, but unfortunately, Melissa’s senior dog does not appreciate Luna’s boundless amount of energy, and in short, she is annoying him!

Luna needs a lot of play time with a pack that really wants to play!

Viktor Krum~Adopted

pizap.com14145158451821

Viktor is a 6 month old male Long hair chihuahua. He reminds us of one of the faces of TDL, Rosie, and he is stinking cute!

He comes to us from Alabama, where the shelter had nothing but good things to say about him (you’ll shortly notice a trend)! The shelter stated:

He sits on command. Loves to cuddle. Starving for attention in the shelter.

When Johannah picked him up she stated:

GOOD DOG! Quiet on the ride, walked well on a leash, peed in the grass like a champ. He is top shelf!

pizap.com141451595299112

Needless to say Viktor is an attentive people pleaser and cuddle bug. He is not at all growly or snippy.

In fact, the biggest issue you might have is him drowning you in kisses! See his photos on Facebook!

If you are looking for a pint sized companion, Viktor might be your little man!

Madonna~Adopted

just a baby

just a baby

She has big feet, but her teeth say baby!  Madonna is about 3-4 months old.  This gorgeous girl comes from Athens, AL and she is a real doll.  She approached Nacho, the resident cat at Newman’s and was not reactive.  She loves everyone, but loves to chew on you… she needs a lot of bones to chew on until her new teeth come in.  It was hard to guess her breed, but in order to explain those feet, we agreed maybe Great Pyrenees and Aussie.

After reviewing the paperwork, we learned that Madonna did have an owner, she was not a stray.  The statement reads that during the act of play, the dog tried to take the newspaper from the owner’s hand, and Madonna accidentally bit her.

Nacho, the resident cat at Newmans!

Nacho, the resident cat at Newmans!

We’ve all been bit during puppy play.  I’m not sure why the owner decided to surrender the pup, since it was an accident.  I remember playing with my border collie puppy on the couch many years ago, I zigged, she zagged, and we bumped each other, and she broke my tooth!  I was furious, but I didn’t get rid of the pup!

Madonna is going to be an active dog for quite a while.  Having a pack to play with will help drain her puppy energy.  I suspect that when she becomes an adult, she will be a wonderful and calm family dog.

You can see more photos of her on Facebook.

What a gorgeous girl.  She looks like a German Shepherd, but her coloring makes me wonder if there’s a touch of collie in her blood!  This girl is just a baby, still has her baby teeth!  She is shy at first, and loves to hide behind her human.  She needs a confidence boost and a gentle owner to show her the world is a wonderful place!

Update:  The pups are eating now, and it’s time for them to see the vet.  They are still coughing.  We will have them examined and let the vet determine why.

You may have seen us last week begging for donations to rescue three collie pups from Athens, Alabama.  The shelter described them as a bag of bones, and even wondered if they would make it.

I love the ladies!

I love the ladies!

After a few failed transport attempts, they arrived thanks to hard working volunteers!  They are incredibly scared and wouldn’t eat for a few days, but they are eating now.  They are emaciated and they are coughing, so they won’t be ready for adoption… well, until they’re ready!  But we sure can follow their progress!

Spanky is the pup in the middle!  Not the runt, not the largest.  He is also the most social of the gang.  He enjoys affection and attention.  He is not coughing as much, and is eating well.  We will post more photo of them on Facebook shortly.

07/01/14 Update:  Thanks to Laura Burk for taking such good care of our two Athens pups, they are eating, and doing much better. They are not as terrified as they were, and love to be in your lap now!  You can see many recent photos of the boys on Facebook.

They were cleared from the Vet for now, they had shots to help build their strength, and on several medications. Cathy McIlroy will be fostering them for a while, until they can get their boosters and be neutered.

Spanky is Clearly a Collie, his black dot on the tail confirms that! They are very happy to see people, and are very social!

It’s going to take time for them to be totally healthy, and yes, your donations are greatly appreciated. If you can donate toward their care, please visit http://thedogliberator.com/virtual-foster/

Stephan is being transported to us today from Athens, Alabama.  He’s got a lot of hair, but he’s really just a little guy, weighing only 20 something pounds!  What a cutie!

You’ll be able to see more photos of him on Facebook very soon!

Mopsy~Adopted

Mopsy

Mopsy

Mopsy is very much a couch potato.  She is good with other dogs, but hasn’t initiated play yet.  She is housebroken, loves people and is ignoring the cats.  She is not a velcro dog, she will not follow you around, instead she will wait for you to approach her, and once you do, she is perfectly happy to sit on your  lap and cuddle!

Mopsy weighs 28 pounds and is approximately 2 years old.  She does not bark, she chirps!  Laura says she looks like a Benji dog!  Since Benji was a mixed breed, we have no idea how to classify Mopsy.  So far, I have researched:

Couch Potato!

Couch Potato!

The Briard
The Schnauzer
The Polish Lowland Sheepdog
The Old English Sheepdog
The Cairn Terrier
and the Tibetan-Terrier

I am clueless, but I’m sure she is a combination of two of more of the above! Mopsy would make a great dog for someone who wants the opposite of hyper!

Her photos can be viewed on Facebook.

11/4/13:  Mopsy was adopted by Helene & Alex Parnes of New Port Richey!

Houla Hoop~Adopted

A mini Catahoula Girl

01/27/13:  We don’t have much information to share about this little girl, except that she came from Athens Dog Pound, and she was transported last night by several volunteers (thank you).  She’s less than a year old, maybe 9 months.  She has a lot of puppy energy, and she is being fostered by Brittney.  She’ll be visiting our vet this week to have an exam, but she has had her shots and been spayed.  We will have her micro-chipped.

Houla Hoop is on the small size, I believe less than 30 pounds, which is awesome since Catahoulas are usually quite large.  She is very obedient, fully trained using hand and voice commands.  She is great with kids, and other dogs.  She has no ball drive so far, maybe she hasn’t learned how to play yet.  I believe she will make a great family dog with children, and other dogs.

We will provide updates as soon as they are available.  We only have her shelter photos to share for now, but more are on the way!  We will be posting them on her photo album on Facebook.

01/29/13:  Little Houla was adopted this afternoon… by Eva from Geneva! Seriously, details will be coming soon.

Houla Hoop – Adopted!

They have named her Alabama, Bama for short!  She was a joy to foster!  Brittney said she was easy peasy!  I can’t wait for updates!  Her new family said they’ll even video tape her around the pond, etc.  It should be fun to watch!  Thank you Athens Dog Pound Volunteers for getting her to us!
