FlapJack ~Adopted!

FlapJack (shown here with his best friend Mulaney) is a seven month old Pomeranian/ German Spitz who loves playtime more than anything. He is a spunky little boy who loves to make friends and steal hearts wherever he goes. Especially, since he is only seven pounds or so and oh so fluffy!

He is currently perfecting a few commands and finishing up his house-breaking training, but he is such a quick learner and so eager to please that it shouldn’t take long at all! As long as he can play, FlapJack is happy! This little guy loves his friends so much, he needs a home with at least one other dog so he always has someone to play with. If you are interested in this little heart-stealer, email us at adopt.thedogliberator@gmail.com

John Mulaney~ Adopted!

Named after the comedian himself, John Mulaney the puppy will keep you laughing and smiling all day long with his constant energy and love of life. An energetic puppy, Mulaney loves to run around outside with at least one more dog and loves to “herd” water from a hose. Though due to his age (around 4-5 months), he is still anxious in new places and hesitant to make new friends, but have no fear, it doesn’t take long for him to adjust. Also, puppy training classes are a must! He has a lot of pent up puppy energy and needs to learn how to redirect it in order to be the perfect friend for little children (ie. no jumping on the rambunctious toddlers).

When it comes to the end of the day, Mulaney loves to cuddle on the bed or the couch and nestle under the blankets. He is a total lover boy and a real sweetheart. If you want to learn more about this sweet baby boy, email us at adopt.thedogliberator@gmail.com!

Little Lucy Loo~ Adopted!

Lucy is a six-pound, four year old female purebred toy Australian Shepherd (*whew* what a mouthful) and a little ball of love and energy. She loves to sit on the bed like a queen overlooking her kingdom and will jump at the chance to go outside. When outside, this little girl loves to run and is a serious athlete. With her intelligence, speed and willingness to please, she can be molded into the perfect dog for any occasion. This lovely little lady would be best for a small dog pack, since she tends to end up under larger dogs’ feet. She loves having company but is still learning how to play. She is a vocal little girl who loves to tell her owners how much she loves them, but also when she wants to snuggle. She is very good in a crate and will use a puppy pad if available to her. Lucy needs a stable pack to keep her grounded and needs a role model or two to show her the ropes.

She had a bad habit, based out of fear, to bite stranger’s heels. It has taken us several months to break her habit, which she can pick up again easily if placed in the wrong home. She is best without small children since she would be too tempted to bite their little feet. While we understand that the people who bred her were intending to make a perfect designer breed, they created a pocket Aussie with relentless herding instincts. Adopting Lucy will require patience on everyone’s part, especially guests, it will take her time to adjust to every new person she meets.  We welcome Little Lucy into the nub-club!

Update: Little Lucy Lou has been adopted by Elisha and Ashley of Orlando!

Sugar Bug~Available!

Meet Sugar Bug, the lovable 4 year old, pure white Aussie girl! She is visually impaired and a deafie, but doesn’t let that let that stop her. She loves to chase the ball and cuddle with anyone! Her love knows no bounds and she is happiest when cuddling with someone on the couch.

Sugar Bug would be best as the only dog in a household since she wants any and all attention on her. She is a quick learner and has already picked up on several of our hand signals here at the rescue.

For more information about adopting Sugar Bug, feel free to contact us at adopt.thedogliberator@gmail.com

Abby-Adopted

Abby is a 9 year old female/spayed border collie who has been around the block and is looking for her forever home. She has been with her foster for a few weeks now and has been determined with the right combination she’d be more than content. As a little background Abby was originally a farm dog and relocated in her later years from a large property to suburban life.

There were many changes that occurred that ultimately her previous owners felt that selfishness set aside, the struggles she had to personally face, rehoming was safest for her. Abby is currently residing with 3 other female dogs and a male indoor/outdoor cat and they get along just fine. As an older girl, Abby is definitely set in her ways, but is willing to make adjustments if need be. Feeding time and food in general are no issues in her fosters home. She LOVES to play ball and interact with you as much as possible. She does not jump or sleep on furniture. She does not touch things that are not hers to play with (I.e. Shoes, clothing, trash, etc.).

She does have some medical concerns (possible seizures), but with her veterinary history it is uncertain at this time. She does not do storms well and prefers to be with you. She is completely house trained and crate trained. Abby, ultimately, if she had to be described in a few words: For an old lady, she is very spry. Abby is a determined (needs some minor reminder, yet understanding pup and she deserves a loving forever home.

Abby would do best in a home with older kids, neutral personality dogs (no young dogs or super playful dogs), cats are okay if they are known to like dogs. We would love someone who understands the determination of border collies  or other breeds of dogs with similar levels of determination.

The Edge~ Adopted!

Update: While Edge was adopted and renamed Bowie, he was returned because of a move. He is everything a border collie is supposed to be. Like other dogs, he does have a few quirks that we are working on. Regardless, he is quite a love. Now the wait begins, as we review many emails of interest from potential adopters, we just have to find the right match!

12495235_10153806359909792_4858490976999881954_n

2016:  The Edge came to us with his two siblings, Wiley and Bono. Although his brother and sister look like Collie mixes, The Edge appears to be almost all Border Collie. We’re guessing that there must have been multiple fathers for this litter! Like his siblings, The Edge is very active and bright. He’s good with other dogs and friendly with people.

If you’d like to be considered for The Edge, please go here to learn all about our adoption process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better.

Shae~Adopted!

Shae, a lovely German Shepard girl, who is roughly 2 years old, 65 pounds and loves to sniff around! A high scent drive means nothing gets by that nose, especially treats! She’s a total lover and wants to be as close as possible to you, though she is well beyond lap dog size (but we haven’t told her that yet). On leash, she tends to think it is more of a rodeo than a walk and will give you a run for your money, but that doesn’t mean she is a bad girl. While she is an affectionate girl, her nose rules her brain. Nose work for search and rescue would be rewarding for her. We have noticed she gets very excited when she sees small animals, especially chihuahuas, so a home without small animals would be best. Basic puppy obedience will be mandatory with her to ensure her success.

If you are interested in Shae, then check out our adoption process and email us!

To see more photos of Shae as they come around, check out her Facebook page here:  https://www.facebook.com/pg/DogLiberator/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10154956469019792

Shae has found an amazing home! Here’s to her and all the love and joy she brings them!

1/16/17 Update:  King is back with us. He is about 5 years old now and although he is wonderful with people, he is aggressive with other animals. His owner is moving in with his girlfriend, and since she has five poodles and a cat, King needs to find a new home where he can be the only pet. King is trained and eager to please. He is great with people young and old, and he loves babies.

Hugo ~ Adopted!

946021_10151845258919792_649134694_nHugo is a very smart and loving little guy. He’s approximately 4 years old and is around 30 lbs. We believe he is either a purebred Basenji or at least, *mostly” Basenji.

From Gisele: “Hugo is very quiet, not ‘in your face’. He doesn’t jump on strangers and is polite with people and other dogs. He is a bit of a couch potato, and he loves to snuggle!”

Hugo was adopted from TDL back in 2013 when he was a puppy, and he did great with his family. Unfortunately, they are being relocated overseas and are not able to take him with them. He is currently in Delton, FL. Check out his photos on Facebook.

Gracie Belle ~ Adopted!

13330972_10154046265214792_7469467018457878408_nFrom Gracie Belle’s current owner:

In November I rescued a purebred 3.5-year-old female border collie with papers from a breeder that was looking for a home for her or was going to send her to a rescue group. Gracie had been born at the breeders and they kept her for breeding purposes. She had 4 litters of pups by the time she was 3. Although she lived in clean conditions, she had never been in a house, taken anywhere, or spent quality time with people. I adopted her with the intention of having another dog as a companion for my other rescue who is a border mix, Daisy. Unfortunately, Daisy is a border collie white Shepard mix and turns out to have the strong Shepard traits in that she does not get along with other female dogs. Daisy has started a couple of fights with Gracie and I can’ t seem to break her of doing it, so at this time I need to find a home for Gracie.

After adopting her I found out that Gracie is heart-worm positive. In fact, she was probably heart-worm positive when she had her last litter of pups! I have started her on treatment and it should be finished about the end of May. Once that happens I will need a new home for her. At that time, she will be up to date on all shots, heart-worm free and I will then have her fixed before allowing her to be placed.

Although she is a purebred border and has the classic Border collie markings she is NOT a typical border. She is timid. She does not play ball or games and does not show any interest in them. She will not herd sheep, (unless she is with my other dog Daisy while herding, otherwise she shows no interest at all.)

Gracie is very quiet and very timid since she had minimal interaction with people since birth and no outside experiences. She was used strictly for breeding. Although I have been working with her she is still timid. She is very sweet and a cuddler and just wants love and attention but is also happy just to be in the room with me.She is housebroken and has no bad habits that I can see.

She does very well on a leash and is good with people and other dogs, although a noisy family with kids could be intimidating to her. I don’t have young children so I don’t know how she would be with them. She gets along with my other dog Daisy but Daisy is the problem not Gracie.

She would be a great dog for people who want the Border collie looks but not the active personality. She has no bad habits except she loves to carry shoes and socks around. She doesn’t chew them, she just carries them.

She would also be wonderful for an older person or couple that would love to give her attention and love and wants a quiet loving pet.

Once she is available for adoption she will be clear of heartworm, fixed and up to date on all shots.

Gracie will be located in the Deltona, FL area. We will post more Photos on Facebook and updates once she arrives at TDL.

If you’d like to be considered for Gracie, please go here to learn all about Our Adoption Process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better.13321910_10154046265189792_8983224123609728457_n

IMG_4051

6/19/16 Update: It is official. Gracie has left the building with Charlie, a 20 year veteran who served two tours in Vietnam! Gracie’s adoption is not quite our typical story.

Charlie’s sister contacted us after recognizing that Charlie could use a great companion (he has had dogs all of his life until recently). They asked us to work our magic and let them know if we had small, mature, well mannered dog who wouldn’t jump or bark too much.

Well, Gracie may not be small, but she fit the bill and we did a trial run, to see if she could be the companion/emotional support dog he needed.

IMG_4069The process started in early June. It wasn’t long before the first update came:

“Looks like the two have become fast friends! I’m amazed at how Charlie get’s up so easily to make sure she is ready to go outside. She sleeps right by his bedside . I think they are connecting beautifully! You are an angel for recognizing how they could work for each other!”

IMG_4058

Shortly after we got the news that it was time to finalize the adoption. A beautiful new friendship and partnership had formed. We believe Gracie had a mission, and thanks to her first rescuer, Karen, she was able to come to us, and we were able to match her to Charlie. It takes a village!

14034695_10154264002919792_1143335181680373414_n8/22/2016 Update: Gracie was returned to TDL through no fault of her own. Sadly, Charlie’s health has been on the decline, and taking care of a dog became too much for him and for the staff at the facility he lives in. She was able to share a lot of happy times with him while they were together, though. <3

In happier news, Gracie wasn’t with us but a couple of days. She was adopted by Wendy and Michael of Sarasota. They lost Nico, their BC of 12 years back in February. She was a very special dog, and it was a heartbreaking experience for the whole family. They decided to wait until the end of the summer to start looking for a new dog…and voila, there was Gracie! Right on time. There will definitely be lots of updates and photos, as they are Johannah’s (Alfie’s mom’s) parents!

Daphne ~ Adopted!

13267887_10154046273589792_4759647389631884478_n Daphne is about 4 years old and weights 40lbs. She is in good health and ready to find her forever home. Here is an email from her current owner:

“I’ve said a quick prayer, committed myself to this effort and reaching out to you with a heavy heart and with shame. I hope to be able to come across to you in this email for help.  My 19-year old Cocker Spaniel, Silas, died on 4/5/16 and I brought another dog into my life too soon.

She is such a beauty; she can sit, stay, offers her paw, takes treats ever so gently, kisses galore for no reason at all, loves to just hang out on the sofa to relax and sleeps soundly all through the night right be side me. I have nothing but goodness to share about her.

She is 4-5 and weighs 40#. She has been given an excellent bill of health by my veterinarian.

The reason I’m reaching out for assistance is her energy, far more than I can match or care for at this time in my life, it is so unfortunate and I’m ashamed that I didn’t consider she would need alot of exercise.

I’ve read almost every word on your website and I’m convinced that I’ve been divinely led to your care… and pondered the decision that I’m making today, that is to re-home her where she will have more socialization with more people (I’m single and live alone, no children and no other dogs) and where she will get to play with other dogs that she seems to love from the few outings we’ve shared.

My goal is to find this great girl a forever home and a good life that she deserves. No more shelters, no more kennels, no more chaos in her short, precious life.

If you’d like to be considered for Daphne, please go here to learn all about Our Adoption Process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better. Check out her Photos on Facebook!
