Abby-Adopted

Abby is a 9 year old female/spayed border collie who has been around the block and is looking for her forever home. She has been with her foster for a few weeks now and has been determined with the right combination she’d be more than content. As a little background Abby was originally a farm dog and relocated in her later years from a large property to suburban life.

There were many changes that occurred that ultimately her previous owners felt that selfishness set aside, the struggles she had to personally face, rehoming was safest for her. Abby is currently residing with 3 other female dogs and a male indoor/outdoor cat and they get along just fine. As an older girl, Abby is definitely set in her ways, but is willing to make adjustments if need be. Feeding time and food in general are no issues in her fosters home. She LOVES to play ball and interact with you as much as possible. She does not jump or sleep on furniture. She does not touch things that are not hers to play with (I.e. Shoes, clothing, trash, etc.).

She does have some medical concerns (possible seizures), but with her veterinary history it is uncertain at this time. She does not do storms well and prefers to be with you. She is completely house trained and crate trained. Abby, ultimately, if she had to be described in a few words: For an old lady, she is very spry. Abby is a determined (needs some minor reminder, yet understanding pup and she deserves a loving forever home.

Abby would do best in a home with older kids, neutral personality dogs (no young dogs or super playful dogs), cats are okay if they are known to like dogs. We would love someone who understands the determination of border collies  or other breeds of dogs with similar levels of determination.

The Edge~ Adopted!

Update: While Edge was adopted and renamed Bowie, he was returned because of a move. He is everything a border collie is supposed to be. Like other dogs, he does have a few quirks that we are working on. Regardless, he is quite a love. Now the wait begins, as we review many emails of interest from potential adopters, we just have to find the right match!

2016:  The Edge came to us with his two siblings, Wiley and Bono. Although his brother and sister look like Collie mixes, The Edge appears to be almost all Border Collie. We’re guessing that there must have been multiple fathers for this litter! Like his siblings, The Edge is very active and bright. He’s good with other dogs and friendly with people.

If you’d like to be considered for The Edge, please go here to learn all about our adoption process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better.

Shae~Adopted!

Shae, a lovely German Shepard girl, who is roughly 2 years old, 65 pounds and loves to sniff around! A high scent drive means nothing gets by that nose, especially treats! She’s a total lover and wants to be as close as possible to you, though she is well beyond lap dog size (but we haven’t told her that yet). On leash, she tends to think it is more of a rodeo than a walk and will give you a run for your money, but that doesn’t mean she is a bad girl. While she is an affectionate girl, her nose rules her brain. Nose work for search and rescue would be rewarding for her. We have noticed she gets very excited when she sees small animals, especially chihuahuas, so a home without small animals would be best. Basic puppy obedience will be mandatory with her to ensure her success.

If you are interested in Shae, then check out our adoption process and email us!

Tripp~Adopted!

Tripp on the move!

Update: What a difference a day makes!

Rescued from Halifax, Trip has recovered and is ready to go.[/caption]

Mr. Tripp was examined by the vet, and he got a two thumbs up.  Tripp can now eat as much as he wants, without fear of pain!  We can see quite a difference in his personality now.  He is a happy bouncy boy with pogo sticks for legs!  Tripp would make a great Trick dog with the right owner.  We are working with him on recall and food guarding from other dogs.

What can we say?  He has a $1300 bum!

“Barney” AKA Tripp
Rescued from Halifax, Trip has recovered and is ready to go.

Found as a stray and left unclaimed at the shelter, Tripp is the newest pup to start his adventure with the Dog Liberator!! Tripp was very timid and unsure when introducing himself to us. He’s eyes were shifty and his attention was on high alert. It didn’t take long though for him to realize he was in good hands. Tripp was introduced on leash, but you could tell he preferred that there wasn’t any attachments. With some help from the Kennel gal we were able to get leashes switched and Tripp loaded into the van, headed towards his next destination.

Once in the van, Tripp started to realize he was no longer confined to the block walls of a shelter. With some puppy talk from Serena and a nice rub down while we drove Tripp was able to relax and enjoy the ride. We let the windows down and cruised on home. There was a beautiful moment in the car, when his eyes became soft. He nudged my hand and asked me keep rubbing him. He wanted the attention and touch and that was huge.

Although Tripp was not neutered he was pretty quick to behave in the pack. He walks around and pees on everything, but that part was expected. He got his name because he was more interested in staring out at the road, like he wanted to go on a Trip! As the first week past, we noticed some un-becoming behavior. He would snarl through the cage and refuse to come out to potty. After some team discussion we realized, none of use had physically seen him poop. Yet, we had all seen him attempt or appear to.

Tripp, on his his way to TDLTripp’s behavior was very sporadic. Times he would happily approach me for a quick pet. Others he did want anything to do with us. It finally came, the poop came explosively, in liquid form. Tripp himself did not enjoy the experience. He was in pain. It became apparent he needed to get checked out, after we noticed a bulge next to his anus.

After a trip to the vet, pun intended, we learned he had a hernia interfering with his bowel movement. He wasn’t happy about the exam, it was pretty painful. Once we were able to shed light on the problem, we were able to understand it was a serious problem. The vet recommended we get it repaired as soon as possible. It was becoming apparent his bad behavior was because he was in pain. Tripp had the potential to be an amazing dog, he just needed to get over this hurdle in his life.

The vet was able to operate and successfully repair the hernia, as well cut those nasty little nuggets off as well. The first few days of recovery was pretty easy. Doctors gave him some nice drugs to help him through. Here we are a week out of surgery and Tripp is doing better than ever. He is a happy boy who still loves to pee on everything!

Although he doesn’t play with any of the other dogs, he accepts them and tolerates them well. The pack also respects his space and his sore bum. Tripp has had no aggressive moments since the medical issue was attended too. He does appear to guard his food and certainly you cannot get the bowl down fast enough for him. He may even try to knock it out of your hand! Overall Tripp is a pretty swell guy and will make a great friend to someone someday soon.

Baby Bella ~ Adopted

Many years ago, Megan fostered Nat King Cole and Brenda Lee for us.  Two gorgeous dogs that we rescued from Craig’s List (I think).  It was Christmas time, hence their names!

Bordeaux and Nanette’s Adoption Day!

They were adopted by Robert and Vicki Guth, and renamed Bourdeaux and Nanette!  For many years, they sent me updates that made us feel warm inside!  Even though the pair loved to dig up Vicki’s landscape, they were adored!

Sweet Nanette ~ RIP

Sweet Nanette ~ RIP

It was just a few months ago that Robert notified me about Nanette’s passing.  Several times, Robert expressed an interest in adopting several of our dogs, but in my heart, I knew it wasn’t a match.

Once again, God plays a huge role in our efforts to rescue.  I know He does, because even though we are a very talented and dedicated group, there are some things that are just simply not in our power!

Just a few weeks ago, Becky Harshman emailed us a photo of pups that needed to be rescued.  That’s when I saw her… this tiny but healthy female baby that looked exactly like Nanette.

Welcome Home!

Welcome Home!

Robert and I exchanged a few emails, and the next day he was in his car driving from Tennessee to Alabama to personally pick up his new pup!  They have named her Bella.  Our latest update from Robert is that Bella has learned to retrieve her own leash from the basket when it’s time for a walk!  Hilarious!

Welcome Bella!  You have big paws to fill!

Quinn ~ Adopted!

quinnQuinn, the baby Shep/Collie girl is a playing fool!  When I see her in action, I sing the song, “Wild Thing…. you make my heart Sing!”

Weighing in at about 20 pounds, she has incredible energy, and is great with other dogs.  There must be a small breed dog in the woodpile, because we think she is going to be small dog!

She doesn’t need to be told twice… she learns the first time!  Without a full-time job, or a pack to play with, she’s going to get in trouble!  If you can give her something to do, email us for more information!

To see more photos and updates of Quinn, visit her Facebook Page.

Quinn was adopted by Sara and Jason of Edgewater! Keep on playing, Quinn!
