Diana the Dancing Girl! ~ Adopted

Diana is approximately 1-2 years old, and she is delightful. She comes to us from Dee Sullins, Hale County HS. When she arrived at Dee’s shelter she was terribly matted, and infested with ticks, and regrettably, had to be shaved and treated. For weeks Dee talked about Diana, and was frustrated because in a rual area like Greensboro, the chances of Diana being adopted are slim.

Diana is a tri-color Border Collie, she is on the small side, maybe 25-30 pounds at the most, and to be honest, I like her new summer cut! She is great with children and other dogs. She is very quiet during the day in her crate (behind my desk) but when you let her out, she has to do her twirls, and skips, and Sarah calls it her disco moves! Diana is a delightful dog that would be fantastic with any family. Oh, and one more thing, Diana is always smiling!

You can see more pictures of her in her photo album.

August 29 Update:

No surprise here: Diana is completely leash trained. She stays right beside or slightly behind you the whole time. Watch this video and note the lack of tension in the leash itself. Really, Diana is something!!!

  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Diana yesterday, she really IS a doll. A little sweet ball of positive energy. She waited so very patiently to come out of her crate without making a sound just smiling at us and waiting to shower us with love! awesome dog!

  2. We had the pleasure of hosting Diana at our house for a couple of days and I have to say she was just a joy. She was wonderful in the house and playful in the yard. Gentle and submissive with people and children and confidently dominant with our puppy. When we first got her home and let her loose in the yard, she could not have cared less about us and ran wild; on the leash, she pulled and tried to escape. About an hour after she got here, I took her out for a bike ride with just the intention of tiring her out. At first, she tried to pull and wander. I went faster so she would have to work to keep up. She got tugged twice (once when she tried to stop and investigate a snake and once for a bug). Not five minutes into our bike ride she had learned to trot alongside and, I kid you not, she never had a problem on the leash again. This dog is an AMAZING leash walker once she knows you're the lead dog. She walks right next to you and slightly behind while the leash hangs limply at your side. She checks in with you constantly to make sure she's doing the right thing, will stop with you on a dime and stand at your side at the command of stay. And will leave it, when told. I have no doubt that she is a very smart dog who will learn very quickly. Even more amazingly, she became a complete velcro dog the minute we came back inside from our walk. Once she knows you're her pack leader, she follows you everywhere. She seemed a little bit unsure at times, but I know she just needs someone to give her some attention and make her feel like she's home. This is a dog that wants someone to bond with. I think any individual or family who can show Diana that she is safe and loved, will be getting an AMAZING dog. The only warning I have is that we have a baby and though she was extremely gentle with him and never showed any fear or aggressiveness when he was in our arms or sitting on his own, she was much more concerned about his walker. This, of course, is perfectly understandable, because he thought she was the bee's knee's and would follow her everywhere, even cornering her at one point. I am fairly certain she will be fine in any home that doesn't have a large plastic contraption following her around incessantly…and since I suspect that most homes don't, I know she will make someone or some family VERY happy!
