The Dog Liberatorâ„¢

The Dog Liberator rescues abandoned dogs throughout the Southeast. Based in Central Florida, this non-profit organization fosters all of their dogs in a home environment. Founded in 2009, all dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The Dog Liberator focuses in rescuing the herding breed, which consists of Border Collies, Shepherds, Sheepdogs, Aussies, Collies, and Deaf/Blind Dogs.

McQueen, the Dog Liberator’s Champ!

McQueen is a 50 pound 10 month old Border Collie. He has one green and one blue eye. The moment I saw his photo on the Friends of Athens Dog Pound Facebook page, I went wild!

While waiting to transported to central Florida, Margaret fostered in so he would not have to spend any more time in the pound. Her enthusiasm for this wonderful dog is apparent in the note she sent us:

He was an owner turn-in at the pound in Athens, AL. I don’t foster often but I wanted to see him out of the pound because he was so afraid. I have a lab, lab mix , and a miniature dachshund, or I would adopt him.

He is very smart. He weighs 50 lbs and will not get any larger. I picked him up on Tuesday and he knows sit, beg (sometimes) and I have been working with him on down and spin around. He is much easier to train than my labs! He doesn’t love going in the crate but will with a treat and sleeps quietly all night. He has energy typical of a year old dog and loves running with my dogs. He hasn’t tried to chew anything and is housebroken.

He would love to be a lap dog if I let him up on the sofa. He does bark at the dryer because of the noise but with a little training can be resolved. I think he was strictly an outside dog before. I put a gate up between my kitchen/keeping room and the rest of my house. When I took it down, Champ would not cross the line….which I thought was interesting.

I will be heartbroken to let Champ go! He stays by my side at all times and is such a loving dog. Thank you for the amazing job that you do! I believe we are all called to help in one capacity or another……your calling is huge. I so admire your dedication to those that cannot help themselves. I would greatly appreciate updates on his future.

Margaret

McQueen will be transported to Clearwater where he will be fostered by Mark, and enjoy the farm life, not to mention, he’ll play with Kudos and the rest of the Clearwater pack! Updates soon!

McQueen’s photo album can be viewed on Facebook.

McQueen has been adopted by Ryan & Jaynee Anderson. They are a lovely couple, wit a young family, and they are planning on moving to Alaska in the future. Mark Whalen says their dog, a Border Collie, looks identical to McQueen except black and white, i.e., their markings and temperament are identical. Here’s our first glimpse of him going home!

Feb 21, 2011 Update:

Just wanted to give you a little update on Marley (McQueen/Champ)

So far, Marley (formerly McQueen/Champ) has been having an excellent time! Our trip from Clearwater to Maitland occasionally seemed to be a little nerve-wracking for both dogs but once we were home, you would never know! Marley was introduced to his new grandparents and great-grandparents who absolutely love him! None of us can imagine how or why someone would have given him up, though we are very lucky they did! Marley has done very well with the Tommy, letting him lay down on him and pet him whenever he would like, they have also shared a few crackers. It did take Marley and Murray a little while to figure out their dynamic inside the house but now that they have, you would never know they were new to each other! At night, we kept him in the kennel the way Mark did and he did great, only woke up once to go outside and then went right back in! This morning, we woke up and took the dogs and Tommy for a walk around a nearby lake and then to sit on the patio at Einstein’s for coffee (Marley and Murray had doggie bagel treats). They did excellent and we have received many compliments for what a nice pair they are! On the way home from our walk, one lady even asked if they were brothers from the same litter!! I explained to her that Marley was actually only 10 months while Murray was 4 years…..she was shocked! Thank you so much for bringing this dog into our lives, he is already an irreplaceable part of our family!
Thanks again for everything!

Ryan, Jaynee, and Tommy

  1. Can I just say how SWEET this lil guy is? He stole my heart from the moment we met and just wants to play and make you happy. He is SO beautiful and is a show stopper. He turned the heads of just about every single person who saw him and even the guy at the vet's office said he couldn't imagine how such a handsome fella hadn't found a home yet. He is gentle and loves to give kisses (as you can see!). Give him a chance and you'll have a new best buddy!
