The New and Improved Roxanne-Adopted!

Roxanne is a precious 25-pound Australian Kelpie, born around March of this year. She came to us with her littermates when they were around 3 months old. Both sisters have long since found homes, but not sweet Roxanne.

It isn’t hard to explain. Roxanne was the smallest and shyest of the litter. When her sisters ears were standing straight up in the classic Kelpie fashion, her’s stayed down in a submissive manner. When people came to meet the puppies, the sisters greeted them with enthusiasm while Roxanne held back. Soon they were adopted, and she stayed behind. As time passed she grew shyer and older, passing the “cute” puppy stage.

Then along came Megan. What a blessing she has proven! With her love and care, Roxanne has completely turned around! She is no longer the disappearing dog!

She no longer is afraid of the world but instead has found her inner puppy. When she came to my home for a gathering of several dogs and people, Megan left her leash on for fear that she would bolt. Silly us! Not this girl!!! She was all about playing with the other dogs and bestowing kisses on the people. At the annual reunion, she was wonderful. 80 people, more dogs, and she just trotted around like she’d known them all her life. We could not believe that it was the same puppy. What a difference a foster can make!

You can see a bunch of photos of this sweet girl on Facebook.

Update: Roxanne is being fostered by Lynne Deal in Clearwater, to increase her socialization skills with family, and children. She has made tremendous progress with her former foster Megan, overcoming her shyness, now we’re taking her to another level!

Update: Roxanne has been adopted. When a dog sits in our rescue for an extended period of time, as Roxanne has, we grow so frustrated for her. I mean, we know how wonderful she is; what have we done to fail to convey this to others. And then, out of nowhere, shows up THE adopter, and it all makes sense. Roxanne was simply waiting for Noel to realize she needed her in her life. We have such joy seeing them together! It was worth the wait!!!

November 23 Update:

  3. Roxy is doing great! She has been playing until she exhausts herself, and then curls up on my couch with a bone :-). We are starting obedience training on Monday (more for me than for her I think). She has done a 180 from when I first met her, and she is stuck to my side now. She loves running on the beach and playing in the park with the other dogs. Thank you for everything!
