Blackberry the Feathered Border Collie ~ Adopted

Poor Amy. Last summer she adopted Billy Joel, one of our Border Collies. Then she offered to transport our litter of four Australian Cattle Dogs. Then she fostered a dog. And then another dog. And then another. And now she keeps finding wonderful dogs in need of her care.

And so we arrive at Blackberry. Blackberry wasn’t even on Amy’s radar. She actually went to the shelter to rescue an 8-year-old Basset hound (Amy and I both have a thing for Basset hounds, let alone older dogs dumped at shelters). Fortunately, the Basset was already adopted by the time she got there. But since she’d made the drive, she thought she’d look around….

and there was Blackberry. Blackberry, of the beautiful eyes and feathery ears. Blackberry, who reached through the cage toward her, as if to say, “Thank goodness you’re here. I’ve been waiting for you!” What was she to do?

Sooooo, here’s Blackberry, a beautiful two-year-old, 38 pound Border Collie. She has proven herself sweet, gentle and super-smart. She has already learned to sit, stay, shake and down. Hmmm, Bassets never learn those things…..

Blackberry is house- and crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and rides in the car like she’s been doing it all her life. She loves marrow bones and chews on them with her head down and butt up ~ too funny!!! She’s very gentle and people-oriented — all she needs is a family to call her own!

Consider yourself warned ~ don’t look at her unless you’re ready to fall in love. You see what happened to Amy!!!

She looks identical to my very first BC that I rescued in Houston, her name was Troubles. I had Troubles for 13 years, she was smart, loving, and gorgeous!

January 11th Update:

Blackberry has been adopted!!! From Amy, “Blackberry has been adopted by the lovely Cervenak family of Largo. Lucky girl, she’ll be living minutes from the beach and vacationing at the family’s cabin in Maggie Valley, NC. I’d say she hit the jackpot — from homeless stray to shelter dog to beloved member of a wonderful family in just three days!”

Think about this: three days ago Blackberry was in a cold kill shelter, unnoticed by anyone. Until Amy. Now she is in the loving warmth of her new family! Thank you, Amy, for changing her destiny! And thank you to the Cervenak family for overcoming the grief of the recent loss of your dog to allow Blackberry into your heart!!!
