Chelsea the Shy Border Collie – Adopted

Update 12/21/09: Vet estimates she is only 9 months old.

The Shelter wrote: “Chelsea is a 1 1/2 year old black and white Border Collie. She is very sweet and wants to be very close to you. She loves attention but she is also very shy and easily frightened. She will need a loving patient family who will treat her very gently. Because she frightened very easily she will need a home with older children who will understand her needs.”

At the shelter, she was afraid, depressed, and confused. I’m anxious to share with you some real before and after photos – showing her true personality once she adjusts to her new surroundings.

We all know by now that Border Collies are often misunderstood because of their quirks and high drive. Let’s see what Chelsea is really like after she’s had a few days at the Border Collie Boot Camp!!!

She looks just like my SHANNON, doesn’t she?

Update 12/20/09: Chelsea is warming up quickly to her new surroundings. She’s absolutely beautiful. More photos soon.

Update 12/22/09: Chelsea can be best described as a gifted child. She thinks faster than her body! She is so wonderful with children, which brings me joy, because so many rescuers do not adopt out Border Collies to families with children. Hog Wash! Chelsea sat the vet’s office with a 5 year old boy rubbing her belly! She literally gravitates toward children, but be warned… Bah Ram Ewe… she’s got the eye and the high-drive to herd. A small backyard may not be enough for her. Solution? Frisbee anyone? Or how about Agility? Oh Yeah! She’s there! She’s just as loving as she is QUICK!
Update 12/28/09: Chelsea has been adopted by Lynne and her Border Collie Zoey! To read updates, please click on comments.

Update 04/01/10:

Chelsea has a new playmate! Check out Jetta!

  1. This little girl is love love love love. So different from Shannon because she actively seeks out humans to love instead of shying away from them. Don't get me wrong, she is still shy but not the same extent Shannon was.
Chelsea is a little thing too.

  2. We got home around 630

She explored the yard , then the house. Zoey was fine with her she even smelled the cats.

She just came into computer room (extra bedroom) and got me JUST NOW, so I just took her out and she peed again ! good dog

Okay I got out the digital camera and it scared her so bad she kept running away from me. So ill have to send pics tomorrow maybe. Every time I put camera in my hand she runs. I wish I could have gotten pictures of her with the kitten but she ran when I picked up camera.

She was laying on couch I got camera she jumped down and ran..I swear I will get you pictures!

    Thank you again, Lynne

okay here's a story you will enjoy, will make you see what good things you do..okay, okay, so last night pouring rain, late around 11:30 I open sliding glass doors cuz its just sprinkling and I know they need to do the last pee. Zoey comes back into computer room, I go where's Chelsea? Zoey runs out I follow..Chelsea is diggin HOLES IN THE MUD , shes covered in thick mud all the way up her legs and HER MUZZLE is black up to her eyes. I go Omigod, try to get hose ,she runs.
We all know border collies have this unique fur that when they dry the DIRT just falls off and they are white again, weird but true.
okay so I let her in house tell her to lay down , yes, on the tan rug! I'm going Chelsea you are covered with mud Geesus, just lay there and DONT GO ON MY BED, I touch her muzzle with a wet cloth there's is like an inch thick layer of wet MUD, she runs ….. I say OKAY OKAY just don't move just lay there until you dry.

she lays there a while and goes back out sliding glass door I follow her in my security cameras and see her go into front yard, I peek out my bedroom window and she is…. IM NOT LYING washing herself in my garden fountain, first she ducked her face underwater then she put her legs in it, then she sat in it walked out and SHOOK herself off all clean
TELL me that's not brilliant!!!! lol

see, brilliance comes even with all their fear, I swear its like that dog understood me !!
She is amazing, still pees herself when I come home, but we can fix anything I'm sure of it
