Fletcher and Frosty, the tiny ones ~ Adopted

Fletcher and Frosty are littermates, turned into a shelter in rural Alabama when they were just a few weeks old. Fortunately the director, Dee Sullins, is a friend of our rescue and contacted us, asking if we could possibly make room for these two little ones. Gisele simply had to say yes, not only because they are so adorable, but because Frosty bears a striking resemblance to Snowdon, a little puppy I fostered in the who died of pneumonia. She didn’t tell me that Frosty was coming until his photo appeared in a video the day before his arrival. What a sweet surprise!

I gave Fletcher his name because his facial markings resemble the feathered end of an arrow; a fletcher is a person who makes arrows. And Frosty? Well, what can I say? He’s white, and its Christmas!!!

These two puppies are lovely. It breaks my heart that they were in a shelter at such a young age. No matter how hard they try, a shelter is not a home, and it is hard on puppies. These two arrived quite shy and hesitant with people, but they are wonderful with dogs. And already they are making great strides with people. When we hold them, they just bury their faces into us, as if to pull out all the love they can manage. Oh, yes, these two will be just fine. They will be loved and cared for, they will find their forever families, and they will get the happily-forever-after that they almost missed! Thank you, Dee. Thank you, Gisele.

December 18th Update:

The boys are doing great! They have put on weight, their coats are starting to really come in, and their self-confidence has emerged. When these two first arrived they were so scared, but now they feel like part of the family. Fletcher still tends to wait a few moments before coming out of his crate, but Frosty just charges ahead, joining in the fray. It’s adorable. Here is a video of Frosty on the couch with my daughter, trying to get my person dogs, basset mixes Gus and Ralph, to play with him. What a goober!

Merry Christmas To All!!!

December 29th Update:

Today Fletcher went home! Matt and Kat have waited until just the right time to get a dog, and he is their boy! He is so happy with them and had fun the first day just exploring his new home. When you’re a little puppy, that’s a lot of exploring to do. I’m excited to hear back from this family, as they are looking forward to training him up to be the best dog possible. What a great match!!!

January 8th Update:

Yesterday was Frosty’s big day! Now named Reggie, he went home with Joe and Teri, and I couldn’t be happier. Their dog had recently passed away and left a big Reggie-shaped hole. As the most cat-oriented puppy I have ever had, I was thrilled when their two cats didn’t run off but actually met him nose to nose! This morning Teri sent me this update:

Hi Holly!
I don’t need an alarm clock anymore, you were right, 7am on the dot Reggie let out his first whimper of the day!
Now, as a typical “new” mother, I heard him shifting around in his cage at 3am and of course I didn’t sleep much as I was listening in case he wanted to go for a potty break. I can’t wait for our first nap!

Right away we went outside and he piddled as expected, so we came right back inside and he started breakfast. Now, you didn’t tell me that he takes a poopy break WHILE eating! I caught him starting to relieve himself so we went outside and he finished that, and he came back and ate more. We played around for a bit and then we again went outside, this time for a walk, and he did pretty well on the leash! Came back inside and he had a little water, and then we played some more, I found that he loves chasing the cats laser light, oh happy day that I can exercise him when it’s raining! We went outside again, this time to the back yard and he was totally different back there. It must have felt more like your back yard because he started running and scampering around, even on his leash. Once again he peed and pooped and explored a little and then went to the patio door to go inside.
Now all the above has taken about 50 mins or so, and now I am figuring I have to give Reggie something to entertain himself while I get ready for work thinking if this is a week day I’ve gotta make a routine and stick to it! Well, did you know Reggie loves to chew raw hide bones! If this were a week day, I would close him in the bathroom with me and he can chew on his bone while Mom gets ready for work! Then it would be a quick potty break again and into his crate with a marrow bone for the morning.
But because it’s not a work day, Reg and I are hanging out playing while Dad gets some much deserved rest!
Lots of love and gratitude!
Teri

PS, Reggie just met Beef, the dog that lives at the house behind ours. Reggie just kept barking at him until Beef gave up trying to make friends and started heading between the houses to the front yard to go for a walk through our subdivision. Well, Reggie just followed along (yes, Reg was on the leash) and they quickly became friends! Then we met Harley (a little yorkie) and a shih tzu who’s name escapes me. I think I found a Vet, Dr Clark at the Hollywood Hounds in Lake Mary. My friends with the yorkie love the vet and techs, so I am going to give them a call to set up an appointment. Reggie also has a “play date” with Harley set up! We are having so much fun, I may have to quit work, ha ha!”
