The Dog Liberatorâ„¢

The Dog Liberator rescues abandoned dogs throughout the Southeast. Based in Central Florida, this non-profit organization fosters all of their dogs in a home environment. Founded in 2009, all dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The Dog Liberator focuses in rescuing the herding breed, which consists of Border Collies, Shepherds, Sheepdogs, Aussies, Collies, and Deaf/Blind Dogs.

I Love Lucy – Adopted

Lucy is a riot. She wants to play with other dogs as bad as she wants human attention. She is a very active Border Collie, and I’m told she is maybe 2-3 years old, but you can’t tell by her activity level. She’s a very fun girl! I’ve never seen a Border Collie with one black leg and one white leg, but I think it’s cool! Thanks to her rescuer, she is spayed and ready to move in!

Lucy needs a high-energy home to keep up with her activity level and she needs an experienced pack leader to continue her training.

Update 12/06/09: Lucy was adopted today. She will have a loving family, a stay-at-home Mom, and two young children, to play with. This summer, she will enjoy diving into their pool – yes, Lucy is a water dog! I’m looking forward to seeing a family photo, and updates detailing her adjustment to family life.

Update 01/07/10: If you watched the Christmas video I did, you saw the drastic differences between shelter photos and adoption photos, and Lucy is one of those. These two photos taken after her adoption, and the first photo taken in the shelter. It’s hard sometimes to look at a photo and determine what that dog will look like under difference circumstances, but in Lucy’s case, her transformation was remarkable.

Oh Lucy is such a good girl!! She doesn't even really acknowledge the Christmas tree. She got to run around at the dog park today and wore herself right now! She found a friend who would run with her and they were booking it. And my daughter went to that dog park with almost no fear at all!! Lucy has healed my daughter of her fear of dogs almost completely!
