Pippi the Mini-Aussie ~ Adopted

Oh, oh, oh! I love this girl! My Tenakee was a red Aussie, but a standard size. Pippi is a mini-Aussie, just 30 pounds, but that is 30 pounds of pure love!

She has come to us by a very circuitous way. Originally she was with a breeder. But when the breeder’s husband passed away, a sweet family near Orlando adopted Pippi (then named Sydney). Unfortunately, with a newborn, they quickly realized that they simply had bitten off more than they could chew. They contacted an Aussie Rescue hoping they would take her. Unfortunately they were full. Enter Cynthia, a dog lover in North Nokomis on the Gulf coast. She took the dog (now named Daisy) with the intent of rehoming her. She contacted us and asked if we would take the dog into our rescue. Certainly, as long as she is willing to continue to foster. No problem. Oh, and can we change the name to something a bit more unique. And now we have Pippi!!!!! And you though rescue was simple! ha!

Let me share with you the original e-mail from the first family:

Sydney is a red tri, she was born in January so is just now 8 months old. She has been crate trained, is housebroken, fixed, and up to date on all shots. We have worked with her some and she knows “sit”, “off”, ” go to your house” – this is what we tell her when it’s time to get in her kennel, and we have been working on “down” for her to lay down. She is a really good dog, she gets VERY excited to meet new people, and has exposure to small children (we have a 3 yr old as well as a newborn). She loves playing with the kids but can get a little rough when she’s excited. In the last couple of weeks she has been in the back yard for extended periods of time due to my being busy with the baby and she has been digging a little bit. She weighs about 30 lbs. We got Sydney through a breeder friend of my aunts. Shortly after the litter was born in January, her husbands health took a turn and she was looking to find the dogs good homes quickly. We were sympathetic to the situation and thought we were ready to provide her a forever home. We were unprepared for the amount of stimulation she would need.”

Now, here are some insights from Cynthia:

“Here’s little 8 month old mini Aussie Pippi. She is an absolute delight in every way. Cute as a button with adorable crinkly ear fur! She came from a home where she was well cared for but they had chosen the wrong breed for their family. This little girl has energy galore and learns everything very, very quickly. She is all about fun, fun, fun. When she finally stops moving (and wiggling in joy) she loves to snuggle up. She adores people, she’s great with other dogs, loves children of all ages, is afraid of cats thanks to Larry the dog chaser, so she will mostly avoid/ignore them. And she learned about chickens. When she came here just one week ago she knew “sit” and that was about it. In just one week with very little effort she has learned “down”, “out”, “stay” and “leave it”. She will need leash training. She’s a very happy little dog and her favorite thing in the world is water. Water, Water, Water. She is in the doggie pool all the time…she saw the Doggie Beach for the first time last weekend and she jumped in and never stopped! This is a girl who would excel at Agility, Rally, Obedience, and of course any water sport. She has a very strong herding instinct. She is very fast and she loves to learn. She would make the perfect dog for a young person to raise and train, or anyone for that matter. Her happy little self makes me smile constantly! “

Wow! How awesome is this? Don’t you feel like you already know Pippi (or whatever her name is!)? We rarely get this much information on a dog from the get-go. We know how she behaved in her first home and why she was let go. We know how she behaves in her foster home, one that is very dog savvy. I mean, this is just wonderful! I am just about giddy! For more photos, visit her photo album.

OK, great dog, energetic dog, cute and petite. We do not want her to every be rehomed again, so before you fall in love with her, please make sure that yours is the right home, that you have the time, energy and discipline to help her become the most outstanding dog in the world! Then, if you do, e-mail Gisele at gisele.thedogliberator@gmail.com and tell her about yourself ~ where you live, household composition, yard and/or exercise plan, work schedule and amount of time she’ll be alone, what your ideal dog would be like, etc. Remember, we don’t use an adoption application but instead rely upon an interview process. That way we can match you with the right dog! We simply LOVE playing matchmaker!!!

October 10 Update:

Pippi was adopted today! The Giordano’s from Palm Coast found their new Aussie girl! This is their third, the other two having lived a long, good life on a hobby farm. They drove about 4 1/2 hrs. home and called me to say Pippi has already played ball on the golf course and gone swimming in their pool and is doing really well. She was John’s Birthday present to himself. What a great present to this couple and to Pippi. I know this is such a good match.
