The Dog Liberatorâ„¢

The Dog Liberator rescues abandoned dogs throughout the Southeast. Based in Central Florida, this non-profit organization fosters all of their dogs in a home environment. Founded in 2009, all dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The Dog Liberator focuses in rescuing the herding breed, which consists of Border Collies, Shepherds, Sheepdogs, Aussies, Collies, and Deaf/Blind Dogs.

Radar, the Perfect Border Collie-Adopted!

We all have our weaknesses, and Radar is mine. This, to me, is the perfect dog. He’s the perfect age, size, temperament, and if I could rescue dogs like him all day long, I’d be happy.

A wonderful family had just settled in after moving from Europe to Athens, Alabama, and this gorgeous young Border Collie wandered onto their property… and wouldn’t leave! Carol brought him to the vet, severely matted, and asked for help in finding his owners… nothing. She had him treated, groomed, and after making a few phone calls, she found me. I asked her to Heartworm test him, and unfortunately he’s positive. Knowing that his chances were slim if taken to the pound, she begged me to take him.

Radar reminds me quite a bit of Bolt, aka Rex. He’s estimated to be 1-2 years of age, about 50 pounds, incredibly affectionate and obedient.

I think Radar is a show-stopper. He’s on his way to us now, and all of his vetting paperwork has been faxed to Val-U-Vet. He will be examined, and his treatment options will be discussed. I think he’s worth it, don’t you?

Be sure to check out his photo album!

February 28th Update:

Radar is wonderful! He is all we hoped for and more! An affectionate dog, he wants more than anything to be with his people. Not high drive or overly energetic, he will fit into most any home as long as they have a lot of love to share!

Update: Dr. Oliver says Radar is VERY healthy, x-rays look good, he has been neutered, and ready to go home!

Paul Pipitone joined Natalie and her family, as they introduced Radar to their family, and the family cat! Radar is settling in perfectly. Updates and family photos are coming soon!

Hi Gisele!

All’s well here with Radar. He is adjusting extremely well to his new home and we could not be happier. He spent less time with his head snuggled in our laps today and more time following everyone around, mostly the kids. He’s getting lots of rest in between his active times and is eating well too. He has had no issues whatsoever, although the poor guy has no idea what a toy is. Once he is feeling more comfortable and we’ve taken care of his heartworms (nasty little buggers), I’m sure he’ll be a quick study in the fine art of playing 🙂

He’s had a few short meetings with his new buddy Barley, a goofy yellow lab who lives next door. He’s pretty tuckered out from all the tag wagging today. I love to see him prancing around with head and tail head high!

Anyhow, here are a few pictures from yesterday and today, more to come. Everyone seems to like his name, so I think he may remain “Radar”.

Best Regards,
Natalie

  1. Mr. Radar what more can be said about you? He is so happy-go-lucky and even after an entire day on the road from the top of GA to mid FL how was Radar acting? Happy, wiggly, ready to meet new people and do big things.

I got to drop him off at the vet (which he was very good about) and every time I would glance his way he would wag from sniffer to swisher. His little tail was like a drum beat from inside his kennel. I honestly thing he would be happy to have someone just sit with him, cuddle him up and tell him what a handsome man he is. He drinks it up and deals it out too. Too many great things to say about him!
