The Dog Liberatorâ„¢

The Dog Liberator rescues abandoned dogs throughout the Southeast. Based in Central Florida, this non-profit organization fosters all of their dogs in a home environment. Founded in 2009, all dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The Dog Liberator focuses in rescuing the herding breed, which consists of Border Collies, Shepherds, Sheepdogs, Aussies, Collies, and Deaf/Blind Dogs.

Carly, a Sweet Tri-colored Border Collie – Adopted

She is gorgeous! Can’t wait to meet her! I hear she’s great with dogs and kids!

Foster Update: Carly has been such fun to have here these past few days since being transported here from the rescuers in Alabama. She is such a loving girl and is quite affectionate. Carly is house trained and has a bladder made of steel. She wanders the house freely and has never had an accident so she clearly knows that the backyard is the place to go. She easily makes it through the night in the bedroom either on the floor or at my feet on the bed but has learned to sleep in her crate also. She leaves her crate neat and orderly even after 8 hours.
I’ve worked with her on basic commands. She’s responding to “sit” pretty well and starting to get the “drop” command with the aid of treats. “Stay” has been tougher to get across to this sweet girl but its only been 4 days. She is food/treat motivated but doesn’t appear to have any food aggression though she does eat her food somewhat quickly.

Walking on a short leash is new to Carly but she will master it within another week or so. She prefers to have free reign in the fenced yard but shows no sign of wanting to flee my side.

By the looks of her beautiful coat, clean teeth and feet, she is under a year old.

Update 11/16/09: Al & Lori experienced a terrible loss when their Aussie/Border passed away. When they found Carly on the internet, they emailed me and we began discussing Carly’s temperament. It wasn’t long before I felt this was a perfect match. When Al & Lori came over yesterday to meet Carly, she immediately gravitated toward them, and to be honest, she wouldn’t leave Al alone!

Lori writes: Hello,

Just want to let you know she is doing fine. Oh what a sweet girl she is-so affectionate and loving. She spent her first hour &half exploring the backyard first, and even met the neighbors(they loved her). Then she came in and went around and around smelling, looking watching. She ate and went outside again. She finally is asleep right now in the kitchen while I am cooking and listening to Big Bands on the CD player. She has to be worn out!

We did decide to name her Maggie-she has her official name tag-we stopped at Petco and had one made-I will refer to her in updates as Maggie/Carly if that is ok. Thank you so much-she seems to be a great match. We are looking forward to having her as part of our family.

I’m anxious for a family photo to add to this blog!

Well, here it is! Carly and her new man!
Read the comments for family updates! Love this photo!

Update 12/20/09: Carly now called Maggie, says Merry Christmas!

Update 11/15/10: Hello,
Hard to believe we have had Maggie 1 year-that went by fast. We love
her so much! She is a friend and companion. Maggie has grown up so
much. She has become calm and trusting with us. Some of her favorite
things to do is the dog park, run and run, camping, going for walks
and bike rides, and sitting on our laps at night-yes all 45lbs of
her!. She brings so much joy to our lives. Thank you for bringing us
together.
