Izzy Gets Picked Up by Pilot Jeff Bennett, from Key West to the Dog Liberator – Adopted
What a gorgeous young female. Izzy will spend the next few days being evaluated and temperament tested so that we can find her the right home.
Izzy was adopted last night by John and Karen Dondey. The Dondey’s lost their Border Collie, and wanted another to keep their Border Collie Duke more active. They have a perfect Border Collie home, but more importantly, they have a pool! I don’t think Izzy will stay dry for long. They are both experienced and dedicated to the breed, and I can’t wait for updates and photos!

"Hi Gisele… She is a very fun dog. I am already working with her on her healing and other obedience training. She definitely understands things and once settled in will make a great dog. She is playing with the puppy alot and he is also having a great time with Duke. Loves the yard and runs like the wind. I believe that within a week or two she will definitely bring Duke out of his temporary shell. She slept through the night in her crate and played outside for an hour this morning. I also took her and Duke for a walk. She is at home in her crate right now, but I will go home over lunch and take her, Duke and Cooper out. I believe she will fit in just fine.

"Just to cheer you up a little. Izzy is doing exceptionally well. She is drawing Duke out of his little shell each day. They were playing with the rope together yesterday. She also plays non stop with the Ridgeback and his teaching him the basics and advance class on how to play with other dogs. She is smart as well and listens to everything we say, and understands. Great dog!!! She is very happy to be with us an appreciates every moment. You can see it. Thanks again for finding her."

I understand how painful this experience must have been. We put our whole body, heart, and soul into an effort like this and when even the best we have to give isn't enough, it can lead to so much anger and hopelessness. I heard a saying once that I really like. I think it's by St. Augustine but I'm not sure. It goes something like “Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and
Courage . . . Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are.”
I find I have to keep my eye on all the successes I have been a part of, because they outnumber the failures and are why I keep doing what I do. Someone said to me the other day as I was questioning my life that they are very few people able to do what I do and even fewer who are willing to. I don't want to feel heroic but I think it is important to recognize the contribution that we all make to animals. They need our voices and they need us. I hope you can find some peace with all of this. I know it's hard. Thank you for what you do, from me and from Izzy. I'm sure there are loads of others out there who would say the same to you.
