Leena, the German Shepherd Girl-Adopted

Gisele: Just wanted to let you both know that Leena was brought to my house yesterday afternoon by the Animal Control Officer (bless him, I didn’t have enough vacation time to take off to go and get her myself) and she’s been doing great. As soon as I got home, got her out of the crate, we immediately took a walk through the neighborhood. On the first part, I let her walk loose on a 20 ft lead. On the second part, after we turned around and headed back to the house, I pulled her in close, and walked her right next to me. She did WONDERFUL and responded very well to even the slightest tug on the leash. Very happy w/that! She was also ‘charged’ by neighborhood dogs, running out of their yards to bark and fuss at us, and she did very well w/that too. Stood still, let them sniff, her tail high and wagging. Another thumbs up! She did wonderfully loose in my back yard yesterday evening, and played VERY well w/the other two small foster dogs I have at the moment. One is 11 lbs and one is 9 lbs. They played w/each other, and chased each other nicely. She also did very well in her crate. She wasn’t so sure about it to begin with, so it took a little extra ‘umph’ from me to get her booty in, but she tolerated an XL wire crate very well. I feed in the crates, to make a positive association, so hopefully that will just drive it home that crate=good. She was quite all night (more than I can say for the yippee terriers….) and was very calm when I went to let them out this morning. She’s at the clinic now, getting her vetting done. She weighed in this morning at 56 lbs, and hopped up on the scale like a champ! She’s being spayed, Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella, deworm and HW tested. Just got a call from the clinic that our hopes have come true…she’s HW NEGATIVE!!!! How fantastic is that?!?!?! Christina Leena is being fostered by Suzanne. Suzanne writes: It’s now 10:00 P.M., and the little lady is bunking down with a full tummy and she has met her new playmates. -Suzanne We estimate Leena to be approximately 2 years old. We will have more updates on Leena shortly.

Suzanne did this adoption solo, can’t wait for details!

9/15/09 Update: Here’s a new picture of Leena (now called Sandy)

  1. That’s my baby girl sandy
I adopted her 4-13 2010. She is still fabulous. I got her into therapy dog work right away because she is perfect. We love her so much I will make a donation in her behalf I feel like I won the lottery when I got her?
