Dudley Pulls Through! ~ Adopted

Dudley Pulls Through! ~ Adopted

Dudley is a young Border Collie that was pulled from Athens Dog Pound by our lovely Stephanie Walker. He was transported to us by Stephanie and Zondra. He is very immaciated and has no energy. At first glance, we noticed green matter oozing from his nose, and we decided he was not going to go any further on the transport that was headed to Clearwater. In this photo Dudley is with Kim, at Aloma Jancy Animal Hospital in Oviedo.

After receiving antibiotics for Dudley, I literally carried him into my car, but Kim, with Aloma Jancy Animal Hospital asked if she could foster him for me. What a blessing, because for the first day, Dudley would not eat. When the sense of smell leaves a dog, no food is appetizing. Kim started him on antibiodic injections, and reports that he is eating small amounts of canned food.

Because he is coughing, I called Kim this morning after reviewing his paperwork, and suggested we give him a heartworm test. Much to my surprise, he is positive. This is going to be a long road for Dudley. In order to treat a dog for heartworm, he must be in good health.

Right now his condition reminds me of Collie Girl Gisele and I know what Maureen went through to save her, but after seeing her again at the reunion, it was worth it!

I have no long-term medical plans for Dudley. All we can do is take every day at a time, pray, and hope for the best. I did not see very much “will to live” in his eyes when I met him, but if anyone can change that, it’s Kim!

I’m hoping for the day that I get a phone call that Dudley is happy and healthy so we can continue to take care of this boy.

Dudley’s personal photo album can be found on Facebook.

If you’d like to help Dudley, we’ve created a Chip In Account for him:

Update: Kim reports that x-rays show Dudley has been shot. There is a bullet or pellet near under his rib right next to his heart. However, she also reports that he likes milk bones, but only when you cut them in half! Dudley has found his will to live, and his progress, I’m sure, will be ongoing. Test results will show tomorrow if he needs to undergo a blood transfusion.

We have raised $170 for Dudley in just one day. I’m sure Dudley will say thank you to everyone, as soon as he can.

We have raised $340 for Dudley so far. Thanks to everyone who has helped.

You can view the comments made about him on Facebook.

Thank you Maureen, Keith, Carolyn, Jan, Teresa, Kathleen and Lynette. We will keep you posted.

11/1/10 Update:

News? Kim says Dudley is NOT the same dog! He is eating 2 cups in the morning and 2 at night, he is barking, and wagging his tail, he jumps up on the couch, is great with young kids, ignores cats, and tolerates little dogs. Kim says he’s ready for his new home! We will consult with the vets regarding the slow kill method for his HW treatment, and the vet says… ignore the bullet!

11/9/10 Update:

I went to Aloma Jancy Animal Hospital today to get some puppy shots and who was there but Dudley. I couldn’t believe how wonderful he looked! His coat is shiny, his eyes are bright, there is a bounce in his step and a wag in his tail. This is not the same dog! Kim brings him to work with her and he hangs out on the leather couch. He is so happy. All he needs now is a forever home. I took more photos and a video, but they aren’t as good as I had hoped because my battery was dying. The photos are added to his album; here is the video!

November 12th Update:

Kim had me laughing this morning when I was at Aloma Jancy Animal Hospital. She told me that last night she was sitting on the couch with her Pomeranians when suddenly Dudley jumped up and stretched out with them. He apparently thinks he is a lap dog! He also now recognizes the signs that they are about to head off to work: when Kim picks up her keys and purse, he starts dancing around, barking. She says her calm morning routine has fallen victim to a Border Collie! LOL

November 19th Update:

Kim finally admitted it: Dudley is staying with her! We’re so happy. She truly saved his life and he loves her to pieces. She is charmed by his laid back disposition and easy transition into her home. Does it get any better than this? No, I don’t think so! Thank you Kim!!!

Dudley now Buddy

10/4/12:  Dudley is heartworm negative!  Kim had to move to England, and Dudley is now Buddy and owned by Marlene Justiniano in Deltona (near me).  Obviously, he is very much loved!

  1. POOR baby!!! We almost fostered this boy before we knew you could get him so soon. He is in our thoughts and I really hope he pulls through. Keep me updated??

  2. OMG, Giselle! Kim and Dudley came into Tractor Supply last Saturday and I happened to be there (working). If Kim hadn't told me he was hers, he might have found his way into my truck! He is awesome (so incredibly sweet and well behaved)and we are so happy he found a home with her. I told her to say "Hi" from Bonnie Belle! You are doing great work.
