10/13/15 Update: When we first got Sir Rusty in we immediately thought of a former adopter who is great at giving a dog a job. When he heard about Sir Rusty he said yes!

Nathan Wilson (one of our awesome volunteers) adopted McCloud (now Asher) and trained with him to become a search and rescue team. Of 18 teams in their class only 3 graduated, and Nathan and Asher did it in half the time it normally takes.  Rusty is next in line for training. We are so happy for them all. Gentle Jerry~Adopted

Gentle Jerry

Jerry is a gorgeous 2 year old Australian Cattle Dog rescued from death from Miami Dade Animal Services. He is an outstanding pup, with so much love to give. He loves being with his human and furry companions. He is great with people, kids and dogs. He is potty trained, crate trained and wonderful on the leash. He is eager to learn and eager to please. Jerry picks up on training extremely fast (something Cattle Dogs are known for). he would make a great addition to any family especially a family with children. He would make a great companion or service dog because he brings so much joy to those who meet him. He is an all around perfect dog that is grateful to have been saved. If interested in adopting Jerry, please email jackie.thedogliberator@gmail.com.

You can see more photos of Jerry in his photo album on Facebook.

Rammstein~Adopted

Free kisses right away

Well, Rammstein was delivered to my door this morning, and Sarah immediately gave him her seal of approval! I’m told he is great with kids and dogs… that’s obvious, but he’s also good with cats! Wow!

This boy is all puppy! He’s at the vet now, and going to have the full treatment today! More news tomorrow!

History:  His name was Duke, and when we saw him, and we were ready to take him, but he had been adopted.  I have named him Rammstein.  He was originally found on the streets of Miami by a woman who kept threatening to take him to the shelter because she didn’t have space for him. He went to two homes. The first home in Miami not keep him because he exceeded the weight limit for their condo association.

Rammstein by BrittneysTouch.com

A volunteer named Mi picked him up from Miami and drove him to Tampa where a second home was ready for him.  However, the second home didn’t work out allegedly because of his high energy. Mi is committed to find this boy a good home, she is transporting him to me tomorrow!

We will be evaluating his medical condition, having him checked out by our vet, and evaluating his temperament… I have a feeling this boy will fit right in at our Border Collie Boot Camp, and we’re going to have a lot of fun!  I wonder which one of my pack he’ll choose to be his new friend?

His photos can be viewed on Facebook.

Sweet Tea~Adopted

Sweet Tea arrived last night, and is very impressive. It’s obvious she has had training. She is awesome with the pack – no issues whatsoever. She immediately knows I’m the pack leader, and has eye contact with me, which is awesome. She is sitting under my daughter’s computer chair, my daughter in it, which is awesome. She is quiet, polite, and GORGEOUS! If you have kids, you need to email me immediately and scoop this little girl up!  You can see all of her photos on Facebook.

History:  Beautiful 3 year old female BC being transported to us by Rebecca Hogue Harshman (thank you Becky) from Alabama. She will be brought to me by Sarah Buxbaum tonight (thank you Sarah). I can’t wait to meet her. She is said to be good with kids, and dogs.  For info on how to Virtually Foster a TDL dog visit http://thedogliberator.com/virtual-foster/

Athena~Adopted

I first saw Athena the same way I see most of the dogs I foster– on Facebook.  Athena and her puppy, Eos, were in Gordon County, and their time was running short.  One day after work, Vicki and I hopped in her truck, and drove up to Gordon County.  When we got there, they told us about the two dogs we came to see.  They said the larger one was male, and the puppy a female.  It was quickly evident, however, that the shelter confused their genders.  They told Vicki and I that they couldn’t really get very close to Athena, or Eos, for that matter.  Athena, they said, would get defensive when they tried to get close to her, and Eos just wouldn’t move around.  On this, they were right.  It took Vicki and I hours to get both Athena and Eos leashed up and out of the shelter.

The minute that Athena stepped out of the shelter, something changed.  The defensive, unsure dog we saw inside the shelter turned into a happy, loving, and appreciative young lady.  Eos, though, took a little while to warm up to people.  When we bring in a new foster, we can only guess what they had been through in their last life.  At first, Eos was attached to Athena.  He wouldn’t accept affection from people, and would prefer to lay down across the room from you as opposed to being anywhere near a person.  Athena, like any good mother, sheltered Eos from “scary things.”  If she sensed he felt uneasy, she’d form a cuddly wall between me and Eos, gladly accepting the affection I would give her.  Over time, we watched Eos develop as a puppy, taking baby steps toward trusting people.  All the while, Athena has been our little “Velcro dog.”

Athena spends most of her time hanging out with her best friends- Raider, Daisy, Kyma, Bella, and Paw Paw.  She loves cuddling up next to Steve, Vicki, and I, especially when we’re watching TV or just talking and having a cup of coffee.

Athena is being fostered in the Atlanta, GA area.  If you are interested in her, please email Khaz at khaz.thedogliberator@gmail.com.

Bobby~Adopted

Ready to Play!

I received this email from Elizabeth, about her Border Collie, Bobby:

Hello Gisele!

I just wanted to ask you for help on finding a good home for a 1.5 year old Border Collie.

He is beautiful, house trained, great with children and other dogs, neutered, microchipped, up to date in all his shots, knows how to come when called, sit and give his paw when asked.

He just does not do well with being alone for extended periods of time (I just started graduate school and work, and am having to leave him alone for 14/15 hours at a time). He is getting very depressed, and I had him since he was 2 weeks old (needless to say, I had to do the whole bottle feeding every 3 hours, warm cloth in the butt for him to poop and all that not-so-fun stuff, so I’m very attached). I love him to death, but I know my dog and I know he is suffering. I don’t want to take him to a shelter, nor place him in a situation worse than what he has here (He is very well taken care of, but lonely), so I really wanted some help finding him a better place to live. Do you think you could help me? Or at least tell me where to turn?

Thanks,
Elizabeth

Trained and Handsome!

After I spoke with Elizabeth over the phone, it was obvious that she’s doing what is best for her dog, and putting his needs first.  Bobby was originally from Kentucky.  Elizabeth met his breeder and his litter mates.  After the breeder told her she was going to put the litter down, she took the entire litter, re-homed them, and kept Bobby!  That’s one lucky dog, eh?

Bobby is located in Pompano Beach, Florida and he’s ready to have some fun with a family that has some time and love to share.  His photo album can be viewed on Facebook.

Adoption Update:  Bobby was adopted by Joe Crowley.  Joe saw him, emailed me, met him, and scooped him up.  I guess that’s one of the advantages of being a long-time TDL follower!  I can’t wait for updates.  Bobby Crowley will have a wonderful active life!

Fonzie, the Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) ~ Adopted

Happy days are here again for Fonzie, the Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler)!

Fonzie and his transport buddies, Casey Rose and Rusty all came from Alabama where they were fostered by Deb Gaylord. Fonzie was pulled from the infamous Athens Dog Pound, a notoriously high-kill rural shelter. Our boy was lucky to make it out alive and we’re so happy he did!

Fonzie and his pals were flown to us by Jeff Bennett, a volunteer for Pilots-n-Paws.  All three of the dogs have awesome temperaments, relaxed, calm, and happy to meet everyone.

In the short time he’s been with us, Fonzie has demonstrated that he is a calm and affectionate fellow who wants nothing more than a human to call his very own. He’s also very good with cats and other dogs, is crate- and house-trained, walks very well on a leash, and enjoys riding in the car. We were told that Fonzie is around a year old, but we think he may be closer to 2-years-old after looking at his teeth. That, or he was tied outside on a chain for much of his young life and chewed on the chain from boredom, causing some wear to his teeth. In any case, Fonzie is a complete joy who — given the opportunity — will make someone a devoted and loving companion indeed.

Fonzie is neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations, and heartworm negative. He currently weighs around 45 lbs., but could stand to lose a pound or two. But, hey … who among us couldn’t?!?

Fonzie is being fostered in the Ocala area, and updates will be coming soon!  In the meantime, you can view his photo album on Facebook.  If you are interested in adopting Fonzie, please review “How to Adopt From Us” and email your information to me at amyb.thedogliberator@gmail.com.

August 4, 2011: ADOPTED! Fonzie was adopted on Sunday by Mike and Belinda Visnich. Mike and Belinda have had a difficult year of loss, including the passing of their beloved cat and their 17-year-old border collie, Neiko. We hope gentle, loving Fonzie will help their hearts to heal. Longwood, welcome your newest Dog Liberator dog! ~ Amy

1/5/15 Update: Fonzi became a big brother to Tuesday, and it seems that he is welcoming her into the family with open arms.

10/30/15 Update: It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Bleu, (TDL’s Fonzie). Our thoughts and prayers are with his loving parents, Belinda and Mike, and his doggy sister Jetta (TDL’s Tuesday) as they mourn the passing of this smiley boy.
