About Rockford
Linda Somers, a former neighbor and long-time friend contacted me on July 1st, for my help. Living across the street from me for about 10 years, Linda was very involved when I first started to rescue. She went with me many times to Pet Rescue by Judy and helped me take photos and videos to promote dogs. Once I was urged to start my own rescue, Linda was always coming over to hear the latest news on adoptions and new rescues. Just a few months ago, she moved to New York, but we stay in touch on a regular basis. The photo provided shows Linda, the first night that Shy Shannon arrived.
When Linda contacted me via Facebook, her urgent plea was a simple one, “I need Help, Help me with my Puppy”. Then, the story unfolded. Rachel Dean, Linda’s niece stepped up to the plate and saved Rockford. The entire story can be followed in detail by clicking on the links provided below. While talking with Linda over the phone, I simply coached her to prepare to take photos, videos, contact the media, and keep everyone informed. Much to my surprise, I was informed that Rockford had a Facebook Fan Page already setup – How cool is that? I assured Linda that Yes, this dog CAN be saved, if we spread the word in as many different directions as possible. “I didn’t know who else to call, Gisele,” Linda said.
Feeling helpless in Florida, not knowing what my involvement can do to help Linda, her niece, or Rockford, I simply posted the story and updates on Facebook. For those of you who are not active on Facebook, this story is so compelling, I wanted to post here on the blog.
Posted on Facebook, I wrote: I don’t do this often, but my friend, Linda’s neice owns a store near Syracuse, New York when she approached a customer’s car and noticed this dog. She immediately took the dog away from the owner and called the police. Both of his back legs are broken, and his jaw is busted. She named him Rockford, and he is at the… vet right now. They are looking for Cornell University to help. They need $3,000. Linda used to live across the street from me and I have known her for 10 years. email linny317@yahoo.com if you can help. More photos coming soon. You Can Call Fruit valley clinic in oswego 315-343 4300.
Since our conversations about Rockford, Linda has informed me that in her area alone, they have had 5 animal abuse cases in the past month, some of which were puppies being thrown from car windows, etc. I guess it appears that sometimes, when you least expect it, rescue finds you, taps you on the shoulder, and whispers, “tag, you’re it.”

Rockford's former owner has been charged. Donations are pouring in for Rockford, and I really hope that this story sparks the birth of a new rescue for abused dogs. Crossing my fingers for Rockford and for his rescuers, and standing ready to assist in launching their new rescue.
