Thank you for Central Florida Earth Day!
Where do I start? First, I want to thank:
Ron and Dawn Sweeney for helping us setup our canopy and unload our stuff! Dawn made home made doggie cookies, they were a huge hit. Ron made hand made dog toys that the dogs just loved. Â Of course Nougat and Cooper were there, getting a lot of pets from people! Â Who could resist?
Dusty and Mike were there and helped us get sign-ups for our raffle, and were our professional TDL representatives, talking to total strangers about our rescue! It was cool!
Of course, my kids were working the crowds, they were amazing!
Ernestine Styron was selling her handcrated signature soaps, and the dog soaps were a major hit!
Brittney Myers was busy doing everything I forgot to do, and taking amazing photos!
Sheila Coffman allowed us to borrow her canopy, and donated the amazing raffle basket! Thank you Sheila!
A TDL Follower, Robin, won the Raffle of doggie goodies! Sheila also arrived with her two dogs, Sammy and Jake. They got a lot of attention from the passers by!
I also want to thank Dale Johnson for allowing us to borrow his tables, we really needed them! Thank you Dale!
We did sell some TDL t-shirts and books!
Who surprised us with a visit?
Shep, now Alfie, and his Mom Johanna surprised us with a visit. He was nervous at first, but he was a show stopper. Everyone wanted to meet Shep. Shep has put on a lot of weight, his coat is amazing, he just looks great.
Anderson Cooper also brought his parents. They just adore that dog! It was so nice to see him, and I was amazed with how quickly he has adjusted to his new family.
Velveteen and her Mom, Patina, stopped by for a visit. Velveteen looks amazing. Patina shared with me that Velveteen’s fear of new people and new dogs is growing. I suspect that because of her age, her vision is getting worse. Regardless, she sure loves her Mom, and sought safety behind her quite often. What a success story she is.
Bart tried to make it, but when his Mom opened the car door, and he saw all the strangers, he was simply too scared. Â Poor little guy! Â I kind of don’t blame him!
Ozzie, Lady Di, and China made a lot of new friends. Â Ozzie got fed up being on leash, and ended up sitting in a chair most of the day! Â China did great some strangers, which is always amazing!
What was amazing is the majority of our dogs were Aussies, Ozzie being the only Border Collie. Â And of all of the dogs that were there, three were deaf/blind.
We handed out a lot of Flyers and Business Cards. Â I don’t know what kind of an impact we made, if any, but I can say that it a great opportunity for us to hang out together. Â I am truly amazed with who dedicated and devoted TDL volunteers are. Â I could’ve never done it myself, I couldn’t even put up the canopy or carried a table alone!
I wish we could identify a place where we can go maybe even once a month, to reunite with people, and make it easier to stay in touch – in person. Â If anyone has any suggestions, speak up!
Thank you everyone, for a very wonderful and fun filled day!
