Promoting Puppies for Christmas Presents?
On Facebook in 2010:
Cathy Conrad: Please stop promoting puppies for Christmas presents. It is not right.
Donna Grunewald: And so it begins…
Cynthia Harper: And we have the puppy debate once again. Our adopters are great! What does it matter that it is Christmas!! Who cares. The puppy found a wonderful home.
The DogLiberator: We promote adoptions all year long, not presents. If our adopters put a bow around a dog, it’s their dog.
The Euthanasia rates in shelters and pounds throughout the Southeast does not slow down because it’s Christmas.
The needle doesn’t know it’s Christmas. Heart sticking and gassing doesn’t stop for Christmas.
The over-crowded shelters don’t know it’s Christmas, people who do not spay neuter and let their dogs roam free to be picked up by animal control do not know it’s Christmas.
Heartworm positive dogs that are going to be put down do not know it’s Christmas. Parvo doesn’t know it’s Christmas.
Thank you Cathy, but after 300 adoptions in one year, my job is to save dogs, all dogs, including puppies, and before I started to rescue, I always purchased my dogs during a major holiday, so I could have vacation time to spend with my new dog.
Who ever does not believe it’s right for their family to adopt during the holidays, doesn’t. I do not recall holding a gun to anyone’s head to adopt this week, but I have been very tired, and forgetting things lately.
Shall we let them die in a shelter Cathy? Or should they rather be in rescue where they safe, and in foster homes, regardless of what time of year it is?
I anxiously await your response.
