The Edge~ Adopted!

Update: While Edge was adopted and renamed Bowie, he was returned because of a move. He is everything a border collie is supposed to be. Like other dogs, he does have a few quirks that we are working on. Regardless, he is quite a love. Now the wait begins, as we review many emails of interest from potential adopters, we just have to find the right match!

12495235_10153806359909792_4858490976999881954_n

2016:  The Edge came to us with his two siblings, Wiley and Bono. Although his brother and sister look like Collie mixes, The Edge appears to be almost all Border Collie. We’re guessing that there must have been multiple fathers for this litter! Like his siblings, The Edge is very active and bright. He’s good with other dogs and friendly with people.

If you’d like to be considered for The Edge, please go here to learn all about our adoption process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better.

Jon is great at a lot of things, play, cuddles, watching out for mailmen, but he may not hear them coming because he is deaf. He doesn’t let that effect him at all.

Graham ~ Adopted!

15628960_10210397541670300_374076528_o12/18/16 Update: Graham has been very patient, and it paid off! Today he found his home with Bill and Pam Kiefer of Port Orange, Florida!

10/14/2016 Update:  Handsome Graham is back with us. Unfortunately, his owner is moving and is unable to take him along. Graham is a very sweet and happy guy who does well with people and other dogs. He does like to chase the little critters, though, so a home without cats that has a fenced yard would be best.

Graham's Boo Boo is all better!

Graham’s Boo Boo is all better!

Meet Golden Graham! He was named for his gorgeous coloring and the fact that he was our first rescue that was initiated on Instagram. I’ve been calling him Graham and it seems to suit him well.
Graham was rescued from Miami-Dade Animal Services where he was picked up as a stray.  A big thanks to Jeanette and Patty Duenas for helping us to rescue this doll. He is about 7 months old. Right now he weighs 35 pounds but we expect him to fill out and grow to probably around 50 pounds or so. He’s a little on the thin side right now but I’m working on fattening him up a bit!
Graham

He is super sweet and affectionate. Graham loves to be pet and will beg for more and is also very gentle when taking treats from my hand. He gets along great with my dog and hasn’t bothered with our cats too much. He let me know when he had to go potty last night and hasn’t had any accidents in the house since we’ve had him. He has typical puppy energy and really enjoys running around the yard and playing with our dog.

He was found with a flea color embedded in his skin. The shelter had it removed and he has a sore around his neck that is healing. It doesn’t bother him one bit though! It’s starting to scab up and he’s on antibiotics for a week.

Great in the car!

July 29, 2014

Graham has been with us for a week now and is a real sweet boy.  He loves to run and play with our dog and then will sleep somewhere near wherever his human is.  He seems to be very happy and is always wagging his tail.  He loves playing with all of the dog toys and I’ve even caught him with two in his mouth at once so proud of himself.   He hasn’t had any accidents in the house.  I haven’t had him out for a walk yet so I’m not sure how he does on a leash.  I gave him a bath last week and he wasn’t too thrilled but could tell he felt much better afterwards.  His neck that was scabbed over from an imbedded flea collar is almost completely healed.  Graham will be a wonderful addition to his new family.

946021_10151845258919792_649134694_nHugo is a very smart and loving little guy. He’s approximately 4 years old and is around 30 lbs. We believe he is either a purebred Basenji or at least, *mostly” Basenji.

From Gisele: “Hugo is very quiet, not ‘in your face’. He doesn’t jump on strangers and is polite with people and other dogs. He is a bit of a couch potato, and he loves to snuggle!”

Hugo was adopted from TDL back in 2013 when he was a puppy, and he did great with his family. Unfortunately, they are being relocated overseas and are not able to take him with them. He is currently in Delton, FL. Check out his photos on Facebook.

Gracie Belle ~ Adopted!

13330972_10154046265214792_7469467018457878408_nFrom Gracie Belle’s current owner:

In November I rescued a purebred 3.5-year-old female border collie with papers from a breeder that was looking for a home for her or was going to send her to a rescue group. Gracie had been born at the breeders and they kept her for breeding purposes. She had 4 litters of pups by the time she was 3. Although she lived in clean conditions, she had never been in a house, taken anywhere, or spent quality time with people. I adopted her with the intention of having another dog as a companion for my other rescue who is a border mix, Daisy. Unfortunately, Daisy is a border collie white Shepard mix and turns out to have the strong Shepard traits in that she does not get along with other female dogs. Daisy has started a couple of fights with Gracie and I can’ t seem to break her of doing it, so at this time I need to find a home for Gracie.

After adopting her I found out that Gracie is heart-worm positive. In fact, she was probably heart-worm positive when she had her last litter of pups! I have started her on treatment and it should be finished about the end of May. Once that happens I will need a new home for her. At that time, she will be up to date on all shots, heart-worm free and I will then have her fixed before allowing her to be placed.

Although she is a purebred border and has the classic Border collie markings she is NOT a typical border. She is timid. She does not play ball or games and does not show any interest in them. She will not herd sheep, (unless she is with my other dog Daisy while herding, otherwise she shows no interest at all.)

Gracie is very quiet and very timid since she had minimal interaction with people since birth and no outside experiences. She was used strictly for breeding. Although I have been working with her she is still timid. She is very sweet and a cuddler and just wants love and attention but is also happy just to be in the room with me.She is housebroken and has no bad habits that I can see.

She does very well on a leash and is good with people and other dogs, although a noisy family with kids could be intimidating to her. I don’t have young children so I don’t know how she would be with them. She gets along with my other dog Daisy but Daisy is the problem not Gracie.

She would be a great dog for people who want the Border collie looks but not the active personality. She has no bad habits except she loves to carry shoes and socks around. She doesn’t chew them, she just carries them.

She would also be wonderful for an older person or couple that would love to give her attention and love and wants a quiet loving pet.

Once she is available for adoption she will be clear of heartworm, fixed and up to date on all shots.

Gracie will be located in the Deltona, FL area. We will post more Photos on Facebook and updates once she arrives at TDL.

If you’d like to be considered for Gracie, please go here to learn all about Our Adoption Process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better.13321910_10154046265189792_8983224123609728457_n

IMG_4051

6/19/16 Update: It is official. Gracie has left the building with Charlie, a 20 year veteran who served two tours in Vietnam! Gracie’s adoption is not quite our typical story.

Charlie’s sister contacted us after recognizing that Charlie could use a great companion (he has had dogs all of his life until recently). They asked us to work our magic and let them know if we had small, mature, well mannered dog who wouldn’t jump or bark too much.

Well, Gracie may not be small, but she fit the bill and we did a trial run, to see if she could be the companion/emotional support dog he needed.

IMG_4069The process started in early June. It wasn’t long before the first update came:

“Looks like the two have become fast friends! I’m amazed at how Charlie get’s up so easily to make sure she is ready to go outside. She sleeps right by his bedside . I think they are connecting beautifully! You are an angel for recognizing how they could work for each other!”

IMG_4058

Shortly after we got the news that it was time to finalize the adoption. A beautiful new friendship and partnership had formed. We believe Gracie had a mission, and thanks to her first rescuer, Karen, she was able to come to us, and we were able to match her to Charlie. It takes a village!

14034695_10154264002919792_1143335181680373414_n8/22/2016 Update: Gracie was returned to TDL through no fault of her own. Sadly, Charlie’s health has been on the decline, and taking care of a dog became too much for him and for the staff at the facility he lives in. She was able to share a lot of happy times with him while they were together, though. <3

In happier news, Gracie wasn’t with us but a couple of days. She was adopted by Wendy and Michael of Sarasota. They lost Nico, their BC of 12 years back in February. She was a very special dog, and it was a heartbreaking experience for the whole family. They decided to wait until the end of the summer to start looking for a new dog…and voila, there was Gracie! Right on time. There will definitely be lots of updates and photos, as they are Johannah’s (Alfie’s mom’s) parents!

Ms Macaulay ~ Adopted

13268486_10154040857284792_8488673687990448536_oThis poor sweet girl was abandoned by her family. They moved away, and left her behind to fend for herself. As you can see her coat is severely matted, and the light has gone out of her eyes.

As we all know, dogs are stronger and more forgiving than most human beings. With love and care, we can help her regain her health and her trust in people, but we need your help.

She is a purebred sheltie and is estimated to be between 3 and 5 years old. Please take a moment to donate to our vet care fund, so we can help this baby, and many others!  Thank you so much. 6/3/16 Update: So we shaved Macaulay down and discovered this sweet little boy was actually a sweet girl! Life is rough when you are so matted down that we can’t tell what gender you are! That being said, Macaulay is looking a lot more comfortable now and has arrived with TDL!

7/4/16 Update: Happy 4th for Ms Macaulay. Ms. Mac was adopted by the Berdeauxs of Port Orange. They recently lost a dog and their other dog was very sad and lonely. Looks Mac is fitting right in with her new family. Congrats!

Daphne ~ Adopted!

13267887_10154046273589792_4759647389631884478_n Daphne is about 4 years old and weights 40lbs. She is in good health and ready to find her forever home. Here is an email from her current owner:

“I’ve said a quick prayer, committed myself to this effort and reaching out to you with a heavy heart and with shame. I hope to be able to come across to you in this email for help.  My 19-year old Cocker Spaniel, Silas, died on 4/5/16 and I brought another dog into my life too soon.

She is such a beauty; she can sit, stay, offers her paw, takes treats ever so gently, kisses galore for no reason at all, loves to just hang out on the sofa to relax and sleeps soundly all through the night right be side me. I have nothing but goodness to share about her.

She is 4-5 and weighs 40#. She has been given an excellent bill of health by my veterinarian.

The reason I’m reaching out for assistance is her energy, far more than I can match or care for at this time in my life, it is so unfortunate and I’m ashamed that I didn’t consider she would need alot of exercise.

I’ve read almost every word on your website and I’m convinced that I’ve been divinely led to your care… and pondered the decision that I’m making today, that is to re-home her where she will have more socialization with more people (I’m single and live alone, no children and no other dogs) and where she will get to play with other dogs that she seems to love from the few outings we’ve shared.

My goal is to find this great girl a forever home and a good life that she deserves. No more shelters, no more kennels, no more chaos in her short, precious life.

If you’d like to be considered for Daphne, please go here to learn all about Our Adoption Process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better. Check out her Photos on Facebook!

Yeti – The “Adorable Snowman” Sammy mix ~ Adopted!

13233120_10154011541999792_1089325939904757472_nYeti is a 2 year old 55 lb Samoyed mix. He came to us as a stray. He’s a very sweet and gentle boy!

Yeti is housebroken and has good indoor manners. He’s not at all destructive. He plays nicely with other dogs, but he doesn’t like sharing his food!

This adorable snowman is located in Deltona, FL. Check out his Photos on Facebook!

If you’d like to be considered for Yeti, please go here to learn all about Our Adoption Process. We don’t use a traditional application, but we would like you to answer a few questions so we can get to know you better.

5/27/16 Update – This week Yeti was adopted out but unfortunately he didn’t get along with his Bunny Siblings. He does have some prey drive, and will need to be placed in a home without cats, rabbits, hamsters, or other small mammals.  Yeti is a very sweet boy who deserves a loving home to call his own!

6/5/16 Update –  A little more info on Yeti! Yeti is generally quiet, he will bark if there is good reason (or if the pack claims there is) but is not an over-barker.  He is not a needy dog. He likes being petted and getting attention but doesn’t demand it.

When he changes environments he needs a few days to adjust and by adjust I mean he becomes introverted and insular for a few days, keeping to himself, until he has observed the new place/people/rules/expectations and feels comfortable. Then he bursts back into his big smiley self.

He loves to patrol the yard and house, just to make sure all is well… well, and to look out for his arch nemesis, the lizards. He is currently underweight but we are working on that. He responds very well to verbal commands and verbal correction and all in all is a great buddy.

6/28/16 Update:  Yeti is going home! He was adopted by Alyson Palmer and her Fiancé of Gainesville, FL. Congratulations to them all!
