Raj, the Wonder Dog~Adopted

Raj, the Wonder Dog~Adopted

Raj is a stunning pup, born around September of last year.  He was rescued by our wonderful Andrea.  When we saw photos of him, we couldn’t believe it!  He looks much like our little Magpie, one of the cutest and most unique-appearing dogs who has ever passed through our rescue!  Andrea not only rescued this precious dog, but she managed to talk a friend into fostering him as well.  Gotta love that!!!  Joy has provided a very complete description of what she has learned about Raj while in her care.  Here it is:

“He is an unbelievable dog! His personality is coming out as he settles in. Plays well with the other dogs I have here..both puppy and adult. He has tons of energy and drive and likes to herd the rest of the pack. We are on a lake and he wants the birds in the worst way. I am playing with him and he is learning to do so. RJ is very good in his crate and eats meals there as well.

He does follow me everywhere and have bonded well (will be hard to see him go). I am having my grandkids over for Easter so will know how he does around them. This dog needs an active home preferably without cats and not yet tested with very small dogs (high prey drive).
RJ wants a job. He would make a fantastic agility dog!!! I am working on simple commands…sit, wait, come, kennel as well as his name. Very trainable. If I had my place with 5 fenced acres, I would keep him in a minute. He is so much fun! Chat later.

~ Joy”

Raj is being fostered in the Fort Meyers area. If you think you might be interested in giving him a forever home, please review our adoption process and then e-mail holly.thedoglibertor@gmail.com

May 12th Update:

I just spoke with the wonderful Cathy, who is now fostering Raj.  She says he is doing wonderfully.  There is no surprise in that he is fully crate trained and house trained.  In fact, one day she was gone for far longer than she had hoped and he was in his crate for 12 hours with no accidents!  Sure, you wouldn’t want to make a habit of that, but isn’t it nice to know that should the need arise, he’d be okay?  Raj is not an alpha dog (thank goodness).  Cathy has several dogs, including Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers,  Hairless Chinese Crested (I don’t think those are really dogs!), and a lab.  Raj plays with those who want to play (the retrievers), leaves alone those who don’t (the Chinese Crested) and gives ground to the one who thinks it is the boss (the lab).  In fact, the lab stood over him growling, acting all tough, and Raj just walked off, as if to say,  “Whatever, dude.  Chill out.”  If you’ve ever had a dominant alpha dog, as have I, you know how wonderful it is to not have a dog that will engage in this behavior (I loved our Brandy, but if she was anything, she was unpredictable!).  Raj energy is level is medium-high, just as you would expect in a puppy.  He’ll play outside for a while and then go lie under a tree in the shade.  Inside he is content to lay at your feet.  Perfect!  Yes, Raj is perfect!

  1. Hi, my name is Mckenzi and I am very interested in adopting Raj he seems very sweet and playful. I am moving soon maybe during the summer to Texas but we needed a herding dog and he seemed to fit the job and the looks. I could just see him working on all those acres having a blast with our grandma’s border collie. He seems like the kinda dog that would fit me to cause I have always wanted a Dalmatian or a Border Collie and he is a mix of my two favorites. So it would be great if you sent some more pictures to this email.

    Thank You

  2. Raj seems like he would make the perfect addition to making our family complete. I am interested in the adoption process for Raj if he is still available.
Thank you to the rescue groups and the countless volunteers and vets that help these animals.
