The Dog Liberator rescues abandoned dogs throughout the Southeast. Based in Central Florida, this non-profit organization fosters all of their dogs in a home environment. Founded in 2009, all dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Play Connect the Dogs on his Nose!

This little pup came from CCAC in Ringgold, Georgia.  A gorgeous litter was there that we tried to pull, but thankfully they all got adopted locally.  Sgt. Pepper was left behind.  Kathy Keith scooped him up for us, and he later went to Khaz & Vicki’s place while waiting on transport to me in Florida.  Luckily, we  were in the process of putting a transport together for Shy Sharon, so Sgt. Pepper hitched a ride!  Special thanks to William and Michelle for making this transport come true!

He is estimated to be 17 weeks old, and weighs 16 pounds.  He has fairly large paws, so I think he’s going to be a good-sized dog, maybe 55 pounds.  It was Mother’s Day evening when he arrived, and at first I thought he might have a bit of Bernese Mountain Dog in him, but I dismissed that quickly, and I don’t know why!  I looked at the wavy hair on his ears, and wondered maybe Spaniel.  Then I pondered on what breed could present that gorgeous wavy hair.  I’ve  spent quite a bit of time with this colorful dog, and I’m no closer at guessing his breed.  He is smart as a whip, and easy to train, so Border Collie… of course!  But look at those feet!

Giving Shy Sharon Kisses

Regardless, he is being fostered by Irma Shea, a first time foster, and she can’t believe how good he is.  He is great with her pack (and mine) and he is already crate-trained.  He does not bark through the night, he’s pretty good on leash, and when he’s corrected, he does exactly what you ask of him!

This little guy would be a great dog for a large family with young children!  Hurry, he’ll be adopted quickly!

His photo album can be viewed on Facebook.

Such a good boy!

06/04/12 Update: Sometimes we wonder why some of our dogs take so long to be adopted! Even though this little guy hasn’t been with me very long, it’s obvious that he was waiting for Ms. Stevie to come and scoop him up! Sgt. Pepper was adopted by Stevie Perryman and her family, and he will be living in DeLand with many of our awesome liberated dogs, like Jaffee,  Doc Holiday & Wyatt Earp!

Stevie & Dr. Pepper

Stevie writes: Pepper has just been AMAZING!!!! Gotten along well with both dogs, and the daschund is warming up! Even almost had a tail wag from Charlie. Pepper went swimming with us in the pool and got all bathed. Already he’s a great sitter and will sit and wait for your command before going through any door. He is so intelligent thank you so much!!!!!
